XM or Sirius Radio? Which do you prefer and why? And, best deals.

Title pretty much says it all. I'm looking at satellite radio and am trying to figure out the differences between the services. Anyone who really knows about this care to offer some tips and suggestions?

I'd like to keep the investment cheap, and will probably just start off with a simple portable radio setup.

I like news and talk radio, but also want a wide range of other channels to choose between.

Thanks in advance.

I would highly recommend getting XM. For me and my tastes, it beats Sirius hands down. I care nothing for Stern. With that said, there are lots of good deals to be had out there for XM. They aren't too hard to find. You just have to know where to look. PM me for more details. I currently have a Roady2 receiver. It is completely portable since it works through your FM radio. There are other portable receivers to be had out there. With your tastes in talk radio, I would definitely say go with XM. You won't regret it. I didn't. Good luck in your search!

Well, when I had some recent service done to my Acura, I drove a brand-new 2006 TSX (loaner car), complete with navigation and XM. For the few days I had it, I sorta got spoiled by having XM radio.

When I got my car back, I started to miss static-free, commercial-free radio, so I bought a Delphi Roady2 (for just $14.99 at Staples), then called up XM Radio to activate it. I used a promo code to get a 12-month subscription for just $77.

The Roady2 was so cheap, I actually bought a second one, just so I could get the antenna and mount for installation in my other car.

I did research Sirius vs XM and it seemed that XM's programming fits my tastes better than Sirius. I also have XM at home via DirecTV.

I like xm b/c it has baseball, the golf channel, lots of sports talk and lots of music. Get sirius if like Howard Stern, & NFL. I'm sure sirius also has sports talk and lots of music too.

I like XM for one simple reason. They have major league baseball during the summer and since I'm from NC originally, they have UNC football and basketball during those seasons. That's it.

XM has a larger base of users and more deals with auto manufacturers for built-ins... givers them a bigger subscriber base and more money for programming.

Sirius has spent a HUGE bucket of money on Stern and are pushing and advertising in a big way. Their subscriber base has almost doubled in the last year or so. I'd expect some more big things from them soon as they are betting the farm on catching up.

Both platforms have some good deals on hardware, and activation is comparable. I'd just look at what both offer for channel lineups give a few more point to Sirius for "gambling on Stern" and toss a coin.

I plan on getting Sirius because of "Bubba the Love Sponge", but don't say anything, my wife can't stand it...

Thanks for all the input so far. I'm leaning towards XM, but hope more people will feel free to offer their opinions.

Circuit City has the XM Audiovox XSC9 Car kit for 49.99 and a 50.00 rebate, total is 0.00. Use XMFREEWEB code when signing up online and they will waive 9.99 activation fee. I got it and installed and works great. My 2 cents

I've had Sirius for a year and a half and many family memebers and friends have had it too. The programming is a bit better than XM(my wife has it in her car), teh deals for both are about the same and Stern isn't the reason to get it, the programming is...Sirius has the NFL, NBA, NHL and almost all of the major college sports not to mention lotsa music and talk radio. Once XM ditched the canned dj stuff it got better but still needs better programming.
Whatever you get will work fine....just don't get the wireless they all sound like crap(XM & Sirius)..make sure it's hard wired into the stereo. Also ask the installers what they have....most of the ones here in Saint Louis have Sirius it works better here than XM.
