Hi guys and gals,
Apple has released a new notebook and a enhanced version of the Imac! All with new intel chips. Hopefully maybe you can do a dual boot so you can have windows for gaming and mac for everything else! 4 times faster then my powerbook! Link www.apple.com

Yeah, that's 2 strikes right there. Apple and dual core. I'm sure it's worth it but there's no way I can put that kinda money out there. Thanks for the heads up though...
Considering only a few notebooks with the yonah chips debuted last week at CES without prices....outfit a Dell or Acer with this and it will be similar...the proof will be inthe pudding(OSX)...even the hacked version run like a bat outta hell on intel machines, imagine one that is optimized for the OS. I'll be getting one this spring for use at school(I'm a teacher)....finally be able to do visual projects quick. :approve:

All i will say is its way overpriced...they did get on the mobile dual cores first, but it is coming very soon to regular PC laptops and it will be cheaper.
Agree 100% (edit: with grentz, not abf...come on dude, let's be intelligent), I don't know if you guys have looked at intel's pricing structure but I have and I guarantee yonah won't be much more expensive than dothan, markup aside.

We'll have to wait and see. It'll be hard to benchmark in terms or raw performance I imagine, but for an 'on-paper' comparison when you compare ALL the included features I have a feeling it will be competitive.
It's not $1,999 for the hardware alone. It's $1,999 for the hardware, OS, multimedia and productivity suites. You could argue that you can just buy the hardware and use a pirate copy of XP of course, but then that's not a comparison.

Good call on the performance, but Apple's marketing is BS on this. "What's Intel doing in an Apple? More than in a PC" That's just bs mud-slinging. I'll take Steve up on that offer though...give me a week to put together my $700 total (including OS and all brand new hardware) pentium D system (waiting on parts from newegg) and I'll pit my cpu benchmarks against his most expensive intel dual core machine.

I agree. Just marketing. But they had to come up with something "out there".
I don't think Apple is trying to compete with those who build their own PCs at home. They're trying to compete for the attention of those who just want and easy and pleasant computing experience. And this iMac is certainly not the powerhouse of the range. It's targeted as a nice clean regular desktop. The current G5 Quads are the ones to beat right now, and how Apple fits Intel chips into those boxes is going to be what you'll be comparing your box against when talking about horsepower.
