Spyware news threads

The internet is a dangerous place, and Spyware is making it worse. As a knowledge worker and System analyst (Windows platform) There is no escape for me from Windows and IE and anythine else MS publishes. If I could, I'd install Linux and openoffice and hope that I never wanted a cool new peripherial device, but since that is a pipe dream...

Microsoft and the Washington state attorney general have filed lawsuits against antispyware software vendor Secure Computer, alleging that the White Plains, New York, company's Spyware Cleaner software not only fails to remove spyware as advertised, but makes changes to users' computers that make them less secure.

Several technology companies, consumer groups, and academics banded together Wednesday to form an organization that will shine a light on shady spyware and adware to call attention to their transgressions.

The group, which calls itself StopBadware.org, is headed by Harvard Law's Berkman Center for Internet & Society and Oxford University's Oxford Internet Institute, backed by Google, Sun Microsystems, and Lenovo, and assisted by Consumer Reports' WebWatch.
