An urgent global security alert is in effect after the escape of a top terrorist suspect.

Interpol said the man known as the mastermind of the USS Cole bombing escaped from a prison in Yemen. The bombing killed 23 people in 2000.

Interpol said Jamal Ahmed Badawi and 23 others used a tunnel to escape Friday. Interpol said 13 of the escapees are convicted al-Qaida terrorists and are considered dangerous.
