heard this on the radio today, some columist wrote this but I can't figure out who wrote it? anyways,
Why am I telling this story?
Quote:
It was December 29, 1972. Eastern Airlines flight 401 was approaching the Miami International Airport on a flight from New York when a light failed to illuminate on the console. It was the nose gear light. It would normally glow green to indicate that the nose gear was "down and locked." The entire crew of this Lockheed L-1011 started to fixate on that warning light. They changed the bulb. No help. While the pilot, the co-pilot and the flight engineer, along with an Eastern Airlines engineer, tried other fixes for the bulb problem, someone moved the control yoke. The autopilot was disengaged and the aircraft started a slow decent. Nobody noticed. The flight engineer and the Eastern engineer climbed below the cockpit to eyeball the nose gear. As the flight engineer was looking down at the nosewheel he noticed lights from the aircraft reflecting off the Everglades swamp. The airplane was just skimming the surface. Before he could notify the flight deck the L-1011 crashed into the Everglades. There were 176 people aboard. Seventy-six of them survived.
oh and if you know don't post the answer just yet, let this run for a couple of days to see if anyone else can figure it out.

You can't always tell for sure what Boortz is talking about. I didn't get to listen to this segment but I'll guess that he was talking here about what's happening to this country. This "hip hop" generation we're in is so concerned about what's on TV tonight that they don't have a clue what's going on in this country. More people tuned into "American Idol" than did to listen to the President last Tuesday.
This country is headed for a big crash in a very similar way to that plane crash. We're so busy concentrating on small items that don't matter that the bigger items are going unnoticed. We're so busy being "politically correct" that we've forgotten how to look for terrorists instead of looking for weapons.
Neal is saying the country is about to crash - and on this score I think he's right. We are incrementally headed for disaster due to lack of vigalence. We've fixated inside our cockpit and forgotten to fly the airplane.
As for the Delta Pilots - they're doing the same thing. They're behaving like Union idiots instead of professional pilots - and they're going to destroy Delta in the process.
Man ... I can still remember back in the late 80's where Delta Air Lines was the model of fiscal responsibility that set the standard for all airlines. They were debt free and first-class, now they're just like all the rest; awash in a sea of red ink and suffering from labor-union strangulation.
Thanks for the link JMJ. I must be living in a hole, but I've never heard of him before. But then I'm from a small town. Is he on xm radio or NPR or something?
