I'm well aware a significant portion of active users of this website are in high school, presumably some on the east coast. We are all aware of the snow storm closing in so what do you think the odds of having a snow day are???
For my school i'm guessing 1/8 due to the fact my principal is from vermont, thus never closes the school :(, that said he's a great guy.
Showing my age, but I remember walking over the tops of people's houses. I was in high school in Iowa.
April 9, 1973 -
a severe late season snowstorm was in progress across Iowa, southeastern Minnesota, northern Illinois, and southern Wisconsin. Wind gusts to 70 mph whipped the snow into 16 foot drifts in Iowa. 10 to 20 inches of snow was common with 20 inches falling at Grand Meadow, Minnesota and 19.4 inches piling up at Dubuque, Iowa.

We got an inch or two (maybe 3 max in some places) in Memphis, TN. The entire city shut down. The bosses let us go home at 2:30 pm. We don't do snow well in the south.
I had to say that it did amuse me because growing up in central Illinois, the snow we had in Memphis wouldn't have even made people flinch.

And, other than the 1140 inches on Mt. Baker, the most snow I've seen in Seattle in over 20 years was the October or November 1985 snowstorm that dropped 17 inches.

here in knoxville, TN we had very little snow. i would say an inch at most, and the roads were 100% clean. many people freaked out about it... a friend even called for a ride to the bowling alley because his parents refused to let him drive "in the snow" lol. i did it, but it was quite rediculous.
you think thats bad..you should try living in the south england, any snow and everything goes into complete chaos, even trains (mind you there're always in chaos). I also lived in kenya when i was younger, it would be very amusing to see what would happen there.

Driving on packed snow or ice is the most dangerous driving for first timer but if you have snow tires you are OK
My first couple of decades were in the US midwest, and I never owned a set of snow tires, however, before front wheel drive cars were ubiquitous, I did sometimes drive in reverse to get traction. True story.

Well, I am also a highschool student, in vancouver we get alot of snow one year and then very little the next few years, we got a bit the most there was, was about 1-2inches. Damn snow, snow = broken wrist at the moment.

Yes, but the reason why the trains stop is that we get 2 inches of 'The Wrong type of snow'
seriously that's the reason the train companies gave a couple of years ago, I think the right type of snow must be the type that only falls in Canada
