1st off, this actually isn't a huge blunder - it's not even a small blunder.

There are articles that already talk about the different versions of Windows Vista. I'm too lazy to link them, but they are out there. This is old news.

And it's actually a very, very good thing. It's not an attempt to get more money - it's an attempts to only charge people for what they want. If all you need your computer for is web surfing and email, you don't have to buy the Ultimate version, which costs a lot more (because it took a lot more people to develop). Also, you don't have to buy 3 or 4 computers to do everything you want - you can simply get the version that has all the features you want to use.

I work for M$ and while I think this place is far from perfect, there are actually a lot of smart people here working on really hard problems which may seem deceptively simple and easy for end users. Cutting M$ a little slack from time to time would not only be kind but wise.

It really comes down to what the prices end up being, though. If the prices are reasonable and correspond well to the feature set of each version, then having multiple versions is great for the consumer. However, if Ultimate goes much over the price of XP Pro, I'm not sure I would like that.

XP Pro runnin' well. Why bother? Could Vista mirror WM5's problems?
