DVD not displaying correctly

I am hoping someone can explain this to me. I just bought a Samsung HL-R5667W Widscreen TV.

*When I watch the Olympics in widescreen HD(on input mode 16:9), it fills the whole screen.

*When I put in a widescreen DVD(on input mode 16:9), it stretches the picture and has bars at the top and bottom.

*When I try the DVD in 4:3 input mode, it has bars on the top and on the sides, but atleast it is not stretched.

How do I get the DVD to fill the whole screen in widescreen?

Look at the TV settings check in the picture mode setting - I'm betting you are set to Auto (not 4:3 or 16:9) set this to 16:9 when the DVD is playing - if this works then you are either using a Scart lead that does not fully conform (the screen setting cable isn't connected) or the scart lead is plugged into a non fully compliant scart socket on your TV (if you have more than 1 socket on the tv try swapping them around)

Hope this helps

Just thought - when you say put dvd in 16:9 mode do you mean switching the way its shown on TV - if so you might need to go into the DVD systems settings and set the output to 16:9
