Thanks to Girl Scouts, troops enjoy taste of home
an ABC Action News report 02/24/06
DUNEDIN - Far from home, military members in Iraq are getting a taste of home: Thin Mints, Samoans, Tag-a-Longs, and more.
Scouts from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School in Dunedin have already sold over $600 worth of Girl Scout cookies that they are sending to soldiers overseas.
The grateful troops from Iraq are sending back some heartfelt thank-you notes that now paper the walls of the school.
"As you will see from the pictures, the smiles you put on our faces cannot be captured in words. My favorites were the Samoans. I say 'were' because they are all gone," scout Marisa Thompson said, reading from one of the thank-you notes.
"It's a really nice thing to do for them because they fight in Iraq for our country and we just want to say thank you," Cecily Borquez explained.
The Girl Scouts will continue to sell their cookies through mid-March.
