If they can make the process cheaper... or if they have a surplus of nuclear power, they could use this process to 'convert' one type of power into another
Japanese scientists extract liquid motor fuel from cattle dung Kozo Mizoguchi, Canadian Press

TOKYO (AP) - Scientists in energy-poor Japan said Friday they have found a new source of motor fuel - cattle dung.
Sakae Shibusawa, an agriculture engineering professor at the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, said his team has extracted 1.4 millilitres of a gasoline-like liquid fuel from every 100 grams of cow dung by applying high pressure and heat.
"The new technology will be a boon for livestock breeders" to reduce the burden of disposing of large amounts of waste, Shibusawa said.
About 500,000 tonnes of cattle dung are produced each year in Japan, he said.
Liquid fuel from cow dung is unheard of, said Tomiaki Tamura, an official of the Natural Resources and Energy Agency. Japan relies almost totally on imports for its oil and gasoline needs.

I wouldn't care if the gas station smelled sh!t, as long as we are exploring a clean alternative to our petrolium dependency. Better yet we can do what Henry ford did in 1941. He came out with a car manufactured and fuelled by cannabis, he also grew cannabis illeagally for years after the federal ban to fuel his personal vechicals and not be dependent on the petrolium industry.
It might sound childish but, the fact is alternitive fuels are right in front of us and have been for years, it's up to everyone to be informed about them and force our governments to employ them instead of listening to big business.
Do you have any idea how much capital would be generated if all of the tobacco growing states changed their crop back to hemp like it was in 1850 and there were 8,327 hemp plantations (with a minimum size of 2,000 acres), and used it for industrial fuel purposes?
