I find it so amusing that Scientologists *REALLY* believe in all that crap. And where are the facts to back any of it up?
While I would never compare Scientology to Christianity or some of the other more recognized faiths, none of them are really "fact based" are they? By definition they all require a leap of faith.

I find the whole religion thing absolutely amazing. Whilst I understand the need for people to [try and] find reason for ‘being’, I truly find it difficult to understand the thinking behind the thinking. To me, the bible is a great story; packed with love, understanding, rage, hate, vengeance, clarity, commonsense, magic; the list goes on. But surely, it is just that; a story? I have a perfectly sane friend, whom I admire immensely, who is convinced that the Old Testament is a true account of the way things started. Can a truly straight thinking person honestly, in their heart of hearts, believe in that; despite fossil records and so on?
To pick up on previous posts: when analysed, most of the violent strife in this world has its roots sunk in the foundations of religion, one way or another. Are we the play-things of many gods, or is everyone arguing about the same god?
I, for one, don’t subscribe to any of it….. and find myself being lambasted for that stand point. It’s my firm belief that, in the absence of religion, we’d find something else to fight about; it’s the nature of things. Oh dear, I’ve just brought up nature.
Am I right in thinking that a growing number of education authorities are trying to stop the teaching of evolution, despite sound scientific proofs? If this is the case, I fail to see the reasoning. Surely religion is a belief system; as is the following of evolution? Could it be that the religions of this world are on the back foot and railing against sound thinking? Evolution seems perfectly reasonable to me, so why can’t I tell my kids that it’s probably the way things work?
I was taught, to an extent, most of the main belief systems in the world (Islam, Buddhism, Christianity etc), and I was also encouraged to indulge in free thinking, logical thinking and to follow my heart. These are things I’m passing on to my children, in the fervent hope that they will grow up with a balanced outlook on life, untainted by dogma and blind faith.
I do not, in any way, wish to upset or offend anyone with the above. Just thinking out loud, because I can……………….

I will put everything down and walk away from Christianity the second you show me something evolving, or when you make something out of nothing.
I guess god was having a bad day when he let satan place all of the false fossil record thoughout the world and placed all that false evidence that the world is 5 billion years old and not 10,000 years old, all to shake the faith of the religious 10,000 years in the future.
And again, I think that all you know is what you saw on a cartoon, and most of you here are basing your opinion on that CARTOON! I find that a LOT more pathetic then some guy who goes to Church on Sunday.
Yget your news from television and a cartoon at that. AMAZING! I guess it goes to show you that intelligence and common sense are not one in the same.
There is no Bugs Bunny, or W.E Coyote chasing a road runner. Hommer Simpson is NOT a real guy. No offence but you all are idiots.
Actually I have only seen a couple of episodes of South Park, I read at least a hundred books a year and often twice that if I have the time. I have read most of the Holy books of the major religions, and many of the minor ones. I do not base my beliefs on cartoons or comic books or on thousand year old myths but on the basis of reason, science and common sense.
The episode in question, "Trapped in the Closet," which first aired last November, shows Scientology leaders hailing Stan, one of the show's four devilish fourth graders, as a savior. A cartoon Cruise locks himself in a closet and won't come out. An animated John Travolta, another famous Scientologist, enters the closet to try to get him out.
In another dig at the famously secretive religion, the credits at show's end are filled with names like "John Smith" and "Jane Smith."
The battle began in earnest earlier this week when Isaac Hayes, another celebrity Scientologist and longtime show member — voicing the ladies' man Chef — quit the show, saying he could no longer tolerate its religious "intolerance and bigotry."
Stone and Parker didn't buy that either.
On Monday, Stone told The Associated Press, "This is 100 percent having to do with his faith in Scientology...He has no problem — and he's cashed plenty of checks — with our show making fun of Christians."
The "Hidden Truth" about the nature of the universe is taught to only the most advanced Scientologists, those who have achieved the level "clear", in a series of courses known as the Advanced Levels. The contents of these courses are held in strict confidence within Scientology. They have never been published by the Church, except for use in highly secure areas. The most advanced of all are the eight Operating Thetan levels, which require the initiate to be thoroughly prepared. The highest level, OT VIII, is only disclosed at sea, on the Scientology cruise ship Freewinds. Because Scientology is a mystery religion, the more closely guarded and esoteric teachings imparted at these higher levels may not always be entirely consistent with its entry-level teachings.
In the confidential OT levels, Hubbard describes a variety of traumas commonly experienced in past lives. He also explained how to reverse the effects of such traumas. Among these advanced teachings, one episode that is revealed to those who reach OT level III has been widely remarked upon in the press: the story of Xenu, the galactic tyrant who first kidnapped certain individuals who were deemed "excess population" and loaded these individuals into space planes for transport to the site of extermination, the planet of Teegeeack (Earth). These space planes were said to have been copies of Douglas DC-8s, except with rocket engines. He then stacked hundreds of billions of these frozen victims around Earth's volcanoes 75 million years ago before blowing them up with hydrogen bombs and brainwashing them with a "three-D, super colossal motion picture" for 36 days, telling them lies of what they are and what the universe should be like and telling them that they are 3 different things: 'Jesus, God, and The Devil.' The traumatized thetans subsequently clustered around human bodies because they watched the motion picture together, making them think they are all the same thing, in effect acting as invisible spiritual parasites known as "body thetans" that can only be removed using advanced Scientology techniques. Xenu is allegedly imprisoned in a mountain by a force field powered by an eternal battery. He is said to be still alive today.
Scientologists argue that published accounts of the Xenu story and other colorful teachings are presented out of context for the purpose of ridiculing their religion. Journalists and critics of Scientology counter that Xenu is part of a much wider Scientology belief in past lives on other planets, some of which has been public knowledge for decades. For instance, Hubbard's 1958 book Have You Lived Before This Life documents past lives described by individual Scientologists during auditing sessions. These included memories of being "deceived into a love affair with a robot decked out as a beautiful blond-haired girl", being run over by a Martian bishop driving a steamroller, being transformed into an intergalactic walrus that perished after falling out of a flying saucer, and being "a very happy being who strayed to the planet Nostra 23,064,000,000 years ago".
Scientologists argue that most members of the organization have not attained a sufficiently high level to learn about Xenu. Therefore, while knowledge of Xenu and Body Thetans is said to be crucial to the highest level church teachings, it cannot be regarded as a core belief of rank and file Scientologists. Such information is not published in commonly available materials, and as such may not be part of what the vast majority of ordinary Scientologists believe.

Sweet, Jurasic aliens right? So UNPUBLISHED information not know to the "Rank and file" that is SECRET is your source. LOL.. GO back to watching cartoons!

Yeah, and what exactly do fossils prove????
That's what I thought! Nothing! Show me all the failed evolution spieces, and half primate huamns? Every single one, yes every one has been proven to be false.
And as for the world being 5 billion years old you must use the "error proof" (sarcastic if you couldn't tell) carbon dating system. The whole carbon dating system has been proven erronous thousands of times (literally).
Actually I believe the dating of the earth has more to do with what isotopes are found in the earth (based on decay rates) which proves that it was made from earlier stars.
You might also consider the size of the universe which gives quite a bit of evidence of age:
Quote:
Need a visual? Imagine the universe just a million years after it was born, Cornish suggests. A batch of light travels for a year, covering one light-year. "At that time, the universe was about 1,000 times smaller than it is today," he said. "Thus, that one light-year has now stretched to become 1,000 light-years."
All the pieces add up to 78 billion-light-years. The light has not traveled that far, but "the starting point of a photon reaching us today after travelling for 13.7 billion years is now 78 billion light-years away," Cornish said. That would be the radius of the universe, and twice that -- 156 billion light-years -- is the diameter. That's based on a view going 90 percent of the way back in time, so it might be slightly larger.
Yeah, and what exactly do fossils prove????

Can you point out some of the examples to support your claim about carbon dating? Every system has a margin of error but C-14 dating's MOE can't be all that big or every reputable scientist would stop using it.
As for evolution and fossils...there are tons of evidence to support the evolution of birds by the study of fossil record. The recent study of DNA backs up most of what is theorized by the fossil folks.
