Actually, according to the only expert on the matter, Dr. Ronald Numbers (History of Science and History of Medicine departments at UW-Madison), intelligent design does not usually hold this opinion.

Old earth creationists, young earth creationists, and others who don't really believe in the big bang and evolution realized their message wasn't getting through and that they'd never invade school curricula because there were too many points of view. So, they created a "big tent" that everyone could get behind, including Jews and Muslims. Insidiously, the term is so poorly understood that many evolutionists get behind it also, thinking that it just means that God was responsible in the very beginning.

This is not the intention nor the belief of IDers. Simply put, the intention is to get diminish support for evolution and to get ideas that are consistent with different creation stories taught in schools under the guise of science. Their beliefs are wide-ranging, but they generally don't include BB or evolution theory.

They can't really, at least not with their "irreducible complexity" argument, which is the foundation of the theory (theory is not used in the scientific sense of the word here, certainly!). This argument does not hold water as they haven't shown any examples that people haven't disproved (i.e. the eye, proton-driven flagellum, even certain proteins [hemoglobin has been reduced by many amino acids and is still functionally useful--according to unknown biochem prof I talked to]).

I have a recording of this lecture from my Axim incidentally--I would post it but some jackass next to me was eating chips noisily throughout the lecture and it's impossible to listen to. Oh well. All people need to know is that ID isn't some harmless little hypothesis that should get equal time in the classroom for its scientific merit, and that it's specifically there to discredit evolution.

I have read this whole post. I have noticed experts, 10,000 years, faith, evolution, religion all quoted. Well Get ready - I have the answer!!

I talked to an expert who spoke to an expert, who read a white paper about 10,000 years that was written by the sister of an expert, who worked at a college dealing in faith. He said that evolution was described to him by an expert who knew this expert who was working on the theory that all life came from this thing that an expert called the beginning of life. Now another expert says he knows says that Scientology's experts say it can not of happened like that because he spoke to an expert about what was really going on. This expert dealth with the differences bewteen everbodies experts, and the differences between what each expret thinks about everything. When I finally realized that he was telling me to go to the top of world and look under this beautiful pick rocked, I went on a journey. When I got there I look under a pick rock and found a note that said

"Thou shall look to the experts. They will tell you South Park was Funny"

On a more serious note, if a religion or a belief system makes you feel good who are we to question it. I am not talking about the fringe radical elements who kill people, I am talking about the 99% other people who just have plain faith.

Funny, I just saw the scientology episode (not the death of chef) and Stan repeatedly dares the COS to sue him at the end of the episode.

If a lawsuit happens, SP Writers are allowed to subpoena all sorts of documents in an evidentuary proceedings.

All the BS about the aliens and devices and such will be brought into court. and potentially material for an unlimited number of parodies on SP.

It is one thing to suppress or intimidate Joe Schmuck on the street waving a sign... it is another to take on "Hollywood" types with a built in media outlet. Where all their commentary can be aired in the public on a weekly TV show and anything too pointed is covered unter artistic license or freedom of expression.

The whole "Death of Chef" was a dig at Scientology, everyone knows it and not ONCE were they mentioned directly or via reference to policy, and everyone still knew that it was a constant slam at Scientology.

Now that Tom's baby has been born, I can't wait for the SP episode on silent birth and eating the placenta like Tom said he was going to do.

... great, now I can just envision a mostly silent delivery, punctuated by the sound of Cookie Monster, from Sesame Street, eating.
"O, what a joyous day!"
"gromrom munch munch rmmm hromm grunch..."

This is not a theological or political debate. Scientology is a cult, not a religion and the only thing they can debate is if BattleField Earth was the worst movie ever made!!!!
