Scientology v. South Park

This Yahoo! article discusses the war raging between the two parties. I love a good battle. Perhaps Parker and Stone will take on Opus Dey next.

I just had the luxury of seeing this episode about 2 weeks ago. Boy, did I love it! Not only do they make Scientology look incredibly stupid, the R Kelly/Tom Cruise/John Travolta closet bit was hysterical also.

I find it so amusing that Scientologists *REALLY* believe in all that crap. And where are the facts to back any of it up?

I find it scary bordering on terrifying how fast these "crap" believers are growing in both size and influence!

For anyone interested in this cult

Huh?? The facts about a 'religion' written by a science fiction writer? Regarding the murdered souls from an intergalactic civilization that was deposited on Earth millions of years ago that now infest us like spiritual parasites that make us think bad thoughts??

What kind of facts does anyone need?

If you wanna hear more about the things Scientology has done, check out Operation Clambake: http://www.xenu.net/

I had a good friend who died b/c of Scientology...sucked his money dry, then "cleansed" him until he was so dehydrated he couldn't survive...even after they dropped him off at the hospital 2 days to late.

Actually, it's the other way around. Cruise and Travolta pay alot of money to promote their "cause". Because they really believe...

Come on guys, all religions are silly, this one doesn't have centuries or history to blind you to that fact. Anything that requires blind faith to believe in usually is. Heck, if they didn't allow the teaching of religion to children (much like they don't allow children to drink, take drugs or smoke) most of the religions would die off for lack of members in a few decades. No rational adult who was never subjected to religious dogma as a child would ever believe most of the nonsense they teach.

The real problem is that the _______ (insert the church of your choice here) have somehow convince the general population that it is not possible to lead a moral life without following their tenets, meaning that any non-believer is immoral by default. Where if you look through history some of the worst atrocities have been committed under the cloak of religion and most of them preach intolerance or hatred of one sort or another.

Oh, and let the flaming begin......

AMAZING! You guys watch a cartoon, and think it is real life?? Geez.

1. The FEDERAL GOVERNMENT says the Scientology is a church, and they are in fact the fastest growing religion in the world.
2. 99% of what you have described in myth or 1/2 truths. Again you watch a TV show and think it is reality. GET a life guys!
3. No I am not a member, but then I don't base my life in a cartoon the way you all seem to.
4. I liked it better when you all hated Jews, by the way do Jews still kill Christian babys to grind their bones to make matza? May be one of you guys saw a cartoon about it and can answer me that one ok?
5. You bigotry and ignorance is distastefull.

I have decided to become a Scientologist. I'm going to quit my job and support myself by trying to make the 2010 Olympics Team as an Ice Dancing Scientologist. I accept Paypal. I started playing hockey when I was 30, 10 years ago, and I think with my athleticism and desire to succeed combined with my belief in aliens I think I can make the 2010 Olympic team. I understand that the skates are different, but I can do this. Are you with me?

quite frankly the origin of MOST religions are the basic tenets of how to get along with your neighbor and was the first group of laws (back in the olden days). Laws today are an outgrowth of that, Thou Shalt not steal, murder, covet, etc.

Religion also provided basic psychological counselling for those questions of where did we come from? what happens when we die? What does God want? What is that coke bottle for? etc. Dogma grew to delfine specific religions and to seperate one religion from another, prodestants vs. catholics, etc. basically just to tell one from another and what set of answers you are to be taught/believe in. (angry/loving/uncaring/vengeful) god(s)

Scientology really doesn't fall into any of these categories... Jedi Master's and Wiccans have more in common to a religion than these yahoos waiting for the spaceship to come back...

Personally, I couldn't care less what religion a person follows, as long as they do not knock on my door before 9:00am on a Saturday morning holding a damn lighthouse...

Most people (at least around here) fall into the 'conveniently religious' category where church is for Christmas, easter, funerals, and weddings. They call themselves Christians, but couldn't do more than name a few commandments and a few trite actions that Jesus was supposed to have done.

There is a smaller majority that is more active in church, going several if not every week, and probably have their kids in Sunday school. They believe, but aren't fanatical about it, usually quite willing to live and let live, but still have an opinion based on religious doctrine. "I don't like abortion and wouldn't let my kids have one... but it is you that will burn if you do it". They can get along in soceity without making waves of their beliefs.

The next group is the fanatic, that is so fervent in their belief that they make consious effort to think of WWJD all the time. You can't talk religion with this group as they are likely to spout into a sermon and blow an entire afternoon on the subject. Many people avoid this group like they have a bad smell...

The smallest group (thakfully) and by far the worst is the militant fanatic, i.e. "Christian" Taliban (or whatever faith). These are the ones most likely to murder you in your sleep to prove to you that God loves you. Luckily, they are usually easy to spot as they congregate at abortion clinics or stand on the street holding signs saying things like 'God rules' while howling obsenities at cars that honk at them while driving past.

Scientologists tend to fall in the last category, except they hurl lawsuits instead of insults...

Never thought I would agree with most of a post by radimus and it makes me fearful since I am almost certain it is one of the signs of the apocolypes (what color horse do you ride?) The only problem I have is comparing the scientologists with the taliban. I tend to classify them more as harmless nuts myself.
