Aximsitesoftwareicon microsofts file open dialog got you down?

yeah, me too. so i built a much better one. check it out, and let me know what you think. it's a native .net CF component. it's been tested in .net 2003, but i don't forsee any issues using it in 2005.

comments welcome!

Ya me too. Just bad design implemented by MS. I've been using File Dialog Changer, but yours look good too. I'll check it out. Thanks for your cool applications. :)

Do u use file dialog changer: http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=752 to save files. If u dont like the open, you probly hate the save in ppc too.

this is something for developers to use as an alternative to the included file open and file save dialog controls. perhaps that wasn't clear.

Will it work if I (not a developer) just put the DLL under Windows\ folder?

Hmm Object/String Problem

I am using your cusom DLL in a VS2005, C# project. I have defined the dialog result as follows

Code:
string strSelectedProg = dlgChooseFile.File;
But i get the following error when i attempt to build

Quote:
Cannot implicitly convert type 'object' to 'string'. An explicit conversion exists (are you missing a cast?)
Any suggestions ?

sounds like you didn't call
dim dlgChooseFile as new netcfcomdlg.fileopen

but i don't have vs 2k5. i built it in 2k3, so i ass/u/me it should work.

greytrev - maybe a far shot:

I can't open files in the BIS on my x3i from

° Shredder
° ViewAny

The open icon turns forever.

When cancel'd I get an msg in Danish (?!) with an IO exception error -

° Application::run+0xf
° frmMain::0xa

I'm using NetCF SP1 (1.0.3111.0) and have a suspicion that netcfagl1_0.dll has something to do with this problem - but I just ass/u/me :)

It's the very only case EVER where I've seen a system msg in danish!

ALL my programs are in english (or german)

° There is no CF-slot (SD only) available as maybe implied by 'netcfagl1'

Any clue ?

errr...that's really REALLY weird.
the reason it's in danish is probably because MS forces unhandled (unanticipated) error messages in the localized language. that specific error is a generic error meaning it failed. which is funny, because i always trap my errors. system.io doesn't seem to take to the traps.

how many files are on your BIS? is there any chance any are corrupted?

considering how many messages are going around with bad FATs on the axim BIS i wouldn't be surprised if this was the issue. let me take a try at loading my BIS and running them.

another thought is to upgrade your net cf to 2.0 and see what happens. i have 1. something on my x30, lets see what i get.

edit:
i can't reproduce the problem. my BIS loads with no issues.
if there's a FAT issue with the BIS, i think Dell owes it to us to give us a freaking flash repair application. i'd write one myself, but i don't have a grasp of low-level pointers that would be required to fix it.
i ass/u/me they both work fine in other areas?
the other possiblity is that the cf you have installed is corrupt. try to upgrade, see if that fixes it. either way, let me know.

I got about 16 MB on my BIS but TotalCommander doesn't state the filecount.

I've restored the BIS from my SD-backup just to be sure (a little more).

I have removed NETCF2 because it occupied about 2-3 megs for no extra benefit - to me.
I use NetCF for WiFiFoFum only - until now.

BTW:
"...considering how many messages are going around with bad FATs on the axim BIS ..."

AFAIK: The reported FAT errors concerns the X50/51 series only - no BIS. AFAIK

No problems accessing the SD files from ViewAny.
It's only the BIS access -

While trying to read the BIS there are 19 threads (dll's) open from VA.
The only 'Net'-file is netcfagl1_0.dll

Could be corrupt ....

The X3 and X30 are somewhat similar - maybe you could PM me your version for a test ?
