I don't think the next gen will have CF. I can see them increasing the BIS ROM like HP is doing with their iPAQs which have as much as 384MB ROM. 128MB RAM would be useful, but may drain battery faster. 802.11g would be nice too.
X52V could cripple PSP and IPOD with the right know how
Yep, Microsoft and Dell are sitting on a sleeping Giant that could criple Sony PSP and Apple Ipod. Microsoft instead of re inventing the wheel to take on Sony PSP could just enhance the Pocket PC by giving more internal memory, maybe expanding the screen to 4 inches and creating an aggressive marketing campain could cripple PSP gaming and movie capabilities and IPODs micro screen because of the added features that Pocket PC already has. Bundle it with some niffty mutimedia software where you can convert your music and video to Pocket PC X52V plus a pair of great games for $299.99 and BAM! Apple and Sony will be scrambling.
-Case structure similar to the TapWave Zodiac (Control Scheme)
-A GFX Chip of the X51v or better (if there is one)
-Battery life of the PSP (sounds reasonable)
-Screen quality of the HP iPAQ 4700 (4", just make it widescreen, or not)
-Sufficient RAM for running the WM5 OS and advanced games, i'd say 128 mb, 64mb partition for WM5 OS and 64mb partition for Games.
-Wireless and all that stuff 802.11b/g BT2.0 stuff like that
-Hard drive concept similar to Palm Lifedrive, but utilizing a 1.8" 30gig Toshiba hard drive. (It'll add some thickness sure, but i'd buy it.
Incorporate all that into a usable form factor and i'd be first to buy. Games could be via download as it is now, or purchase via SD cards. SD cards , 128-512mb are so cheap now it'll be worth it.

I am considering upgrading my Axim X51V RAM to 128MB and I would use this extra memory for gaming, everything else I am happy with apart from the lack of WIDCOMM Bluetooth .
Judging by some of the decisions of manufacturers of Pocket PC's (N500 vs Loox 720 for example) with regards to their new releases, I wouldn't be surprised if the next Axim had less features and specs than the current one.
We all know what would work, we all know what would make a high demand next gen device but it would appear that the manufacturers are on a completely different planet.
How many of you would have still purchased an Axim X51V if it was advertised as having only 30MB RAM?
I agree completely with darkdestroyer in the system he has set the specs for. This would be a killer system. I'd probably pay $700-$800 for a system like that. It would wipe away ANY ipod on the market, and ANY portable gaming system. The only thing Dell would have to do on top of this would be to make some contracts with some major game makers (Rare ware, Bungi, Atari, Fathamer, etc...) to really get their show on the road. If they did this and then aggressively advertised it they would make Sony and Apple look like fools.
urm...isn't that the oragami project? Sub-$1000 , full windows xp functionality. Hell, if these things get a decent battery life over laptops , a new genre of computers may emerge.
