Aximsitex50icon Stupid Warranty Policy of Dell

I bought my Axim 51 520 two months ago and the screen becomes very vague and I order the sreen protector from dell website and the sales rep told me there is on the machine when I received it. I tear off the screen protector (actually it is the pen sensor film ) and the machine can not be used further. it can be link to my pc . I call Dell and the people there told me this can not sdbe fixed unless I pay to buy a new one! i ask them to repaire they said no repare service for PDA!!!!! I think this a totally worng because whoever make the mistake when the machine is not running , the manufacture must repaire even I pay. Think about it . It is a new machdine for only two months. and now it has to sleep in my drawer?
Hote the Dell Manager can see this massage.

I'm not exactly sure why your screen isn't working and what is a pen sensor film? You mean the plastic protector that was on the Ax for shipping. Taking that off should not damage the screen. Anyway you should have a 1 year warranty on it. If it doesn't work send it back.

How in the world did you tear off the digitizer film. Was it so easy to pull off that you could think it was a screen protector?

I think the screen protector they meant was the big plastic sheet with lots of words on it that is stuck to your Axim when it comes. If you order your Axim with a screen protector, I think it comes seperately and you will have to stick it on yourself.

Exactly. Could you give us the name of the exact component that you peeled off? It sound like the digitizer, but that's stuck tight to the axim.:rolling:

Remember the lock switch too, have you confirmed the lock switch is OFF? Many have been bitten by that clever little troublemaker...

He tore off the digitizer surface. Probably used a knife to cut it off, thinking it was the 'plastic' he was supposed to remove. 'nuff said.

digitizer repair by Dell need USD250!!!!

Sorry for the poor English. It is the digitizer I peeled off(How foolish). Dell quote USD250 for changing the digitizer only! Now I found a place to change it for only USD40. I will be very carefull when I get it fixed. I am still questioning the Warranty Policy of Dell. I think they should put the documents(warranty) into the box when deliver it to the user. Dell is very famous for its aftersales service so I decide to buy the product. Disapointed.............

how in the heck is that possible ???

is it because you hold that protection plastic that they shipped with the device and ripped it real fast ? like you would when a duct tape is over a person's mouth ??? ( like in movies ) :D

I took a look at my screen ... I cannot even see a way to peel the digitizer off ... it is one flat surface ... there's no raised surface that I can see where a person could pick at with finger nails ...etc

The standard warranty wouldn't ever cover such a 'foolish' action.

It's arguable if the accidental damage one would either... since it sounds like deliberate damage.....

sorry about your loss... but it does sound like your fault and not Dell's

What surprises me is that they told him there was a protector installed, leading him to think there was something to remove. If further calls and bitter complaining can't get you an exchange, David, try PocketPCTechs. They can do it for about $US150.00.

So I log onto Dell's site to check for "latest" ROM and I get a popup saying my service tag qualifies for gold/platinum support

I decide to see what this is about and the gold/platinum support covers servers/workstations not Axims - too funny
