'strue crispeto. I've done that after each PC upgrade at work and could download anything that wasn't a completey new version number for years now. Just follow those instructions and you shouldn't have any problems.

Contact the developers directly at tneir webpage if you fell in that just bought it and a new version came out before 30 days were over thing.'

Is there a particular software coompany that's giving you grief?

I should state that I was able to find the software I was looking for from the crashed HD. I can't boot to that HD but I was able to get to the software a few hours ago. I just think this whole so called "protection" thing is a ridiculous rip off. I'm good to go now but I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this policy is mostly for $$$

I used to love Handango, but since they instituted this policy I have been purchasing less software from them. They must be so proud to have discovered another way to make a few $$. Too bad they are alienating the very people they are trying to rip off. At least we have Pocket Gear. Not to mention that it seems that some developers not only sell their own titles, they team up with other developers and offer their titles as well. I wonder if that is ultimately a better arrangement for everyone, anyway? I'm not sure how much Pocket Gear charges, but I seem to recall that Handango takes a lot of money from the developers that sell their software there. And let's face it - the customer support at Handango reallly stinks (at least that's been my experience).

On the other hand, anytime I have contacted a software company directly with a problem, they have been quite responsive and willing to help solve whatever problem I have. I'm hoping that the developers that sell software for other developers (examples: Astraware, eSoft Interactive and Clickgamer) are able to do so without gouging into profit margins like Handango does.

I think Handango has shot itself in the foot with this maneuver. How long do you think it will take them to get the message?

If I were a dev. selling through Handango, I would be very upset, as this policy will increase software piracy, even while it increases Handango's bottom line. People legally re-downloading will be paying money to Handango, not the Dev. People discouraged by Handango's policies will resort to downloading cracked copies, cheating the developer. It's taking money away from the developers. Criminal. Boycott.

Yeah ... I do same. All my downloaded utilities (and a good many of my distribution CD's) get archived on an external drive in case I have to re-install stuff. Only way to go.

Has anyone heard any more about this ridiculous policy? I posted three different forum links to my correspondence with Handango. I'm interested to see how they will respond to our frustration. I'll post what they respond with.
