A little over a month ago I purchased some upgrade software from Handango for $11.99. Since then my hard drive has gone kaput and now I have a new laptop. I went to download the software to my new computer from Handango and was told that because I purchased it over a month ago, I have to pay an additional $6.99 to download it again. Olive Tree, Laridian, and Revolution Software don't charge me anything to re-download software. If it's my account, why can't I just download it when I want? Am I missing something here?

Yeah, Handango's little policy totally sucks, that is what was missed. As I saw this happening I started a little folder on my memory card that I have on my work computer and on my home computer as well - it is call 'Executables - CABs'. You might guess from the name that it contains the install files for everything on my Axim. I really like having this because if I have to hard reset then I am ready to go in and put all the programs that I had previously, back on with no trouble. I would encourage you to do this.....and to write Handango and let them know that you really don't like the insane price they charge for a later download.
Thanks for the advice. Luckily I do have most of what I've purchased from them. What a bogus policy. Almost seems like a scam. I did write to them too. Anxious to see their reply.

Handango hosts the latest version at the developers request, and some developers add a new charge if the version number changes from say 1.7 to 3.0 so how is Handango azt fault here?
Can you download the software you're talking about from the developers site for free.

It's definitely a Handango thing. I tried downloading other recently purchased software (but over 30 days ago) and I get the same screen telling me that because it's been over 30 days, I will need to pay $6.99. I think it's ridiculous.

I always did this and if you are organized it works very well.

Its something new they have started. They did allow you to re-download an item you previously bought for free, if you could prove you were the original downloader, using proof of credit card, invoice number etc. Now they tack on a "Download fee" automatically. Usually $4.99 per file. They do have a box you can uncheck, but you need to be aware its there. It can add up if you purchase say 3 files that ~ $15.00 added to your total!
It's been more than 30 days since I've bought software anywhere. I just wish I weren't mobile right now, I'd check out Handango's Terms of Agreement or FAQs or something. Their mobile pages are lacking in content.

Can one of you non-mobile folks link to Handango's Terms of Agreement for me? This policy if it's in place is going to ruin their rep. Heck, Handango is just a store. Stores who charge to much close from lack of interest.
Was there a press release or something? This is a seriously radical change in policy.

Get this. I wrote to them complaining about all of this. I told them that if they charge me $7.00 for trying to download software I legally own, I would contact my Amex and try to dispute it. They replied that if I try that, they will cancel my account and I will not be allowed to purchase anything through them or anyone they are affiliated with (whatever companies they are). I have all of this in writing by the way. Wow!
