@perkinscl ---

The actlink is not a database. Rather it allows you to sync your ACT database on your desktop to the Pocket Outlook program on you PPC. Without the link, the default sync is from Outlook on your desktop to Pocket Outlook on the PPC. Companion Link is the same -- they are conduits to your ACT database.

After you install the ACTlink, you then choose the ACT contacts, appointments, and to-do's as the default sync. Once you choose this, you are now syncing ACT and not Outlook.

So, yes, you can keep your other information in Outlook on your desktop and it will not sync to Pocket Outlook on the PPC.

Doe this make sense?

Edit --- You can only sync one database to your ppc ---- so, if you wanted both your personal and business contacts available to you on the ppc, they need to be in the same database on the desktop -- whether it be ACT or Outlook. My ACT database has both --- I just set a field in the database for personal, business, whatever - then you can sort by that field if needed.

Glad I found this thread. New to Axim. Old to ACT! Using Companion Link very successfully to sync - however - I am only synching from PC to Axim. When I sync from Axim to ACT! bizarre things happen with appointments that repeat - so I gave up on that.

To folks considering ACT! as a contact manager... DO NOT USE ACT! 7.0. That's what I am using and it is garbage... buggy... slower than imaginable. I'm stuck with it because my DB is so large (almost 2,000 contacts) and there is no returning once you have converted from 6.0. On the other hand, 6.0 was fine... so sorry that I listened to the Sage hype on 7.0.

Comments about groups synching well are valid - no problems at all.

Only problem I currently have is finding a way to get some of my special fields in ACT! to synch on the Axim using Companion Link - any ideas would be appreciated.

Welcome Kmej. I just bought Companion Link and am happy with it. Especially b/c I can finally sync groups. The only thing I can't do is, in group view on my Axim, is view contacts by company name. Why would I want to see them any other way?

ACT 2005 Setup

I am new with ACT and i want to share the database among 3 other users in my office. Do I save the database on our network share and then all of the users copy the .pad file onto their PC's? Or can I save it to my pc that is on the network and copy the .pad file onto their PC's?
