Why doesn't ms spend a little more than 5 min. on their sps?
this is the 5th time that sp2 has bricked an os. i upgraded my custom computer to sp2 and it would restart at random times. so i formated it and followed ms's directions on how to install it. it still did it! this hapend at leats 4 times in row. i am starting to relized that ms is made u p of idiots who dont know th fist thing about programming.. so now i have to format and re-do it. i spent nearly 6 hours re-doing all m awttings. well i am off to cal ms and speck my mind:realmad: :realmad: :realmad: :realmad: :realmad:
Funny, I have upgraded 100s of machines with SP2 and only had problems on a very small percentage, most of which were easy fixes (upgrade drivers, get rid of crap software, etc.)....
Most of the changes in SP2 are just the updates before SP2, there are some new things (like the new security center and IE security), but most of the stuff is from before.
Also remember, they are supporting millions of different configurations, so not everyone will work perfect. You might have an unstable driver or program, or even just something that does not like a system service or something. It is hard to say they suck when they have such an enormous group to support.
That's one thing that has let Mac seem better, they only have select hardware, so when they do an update, everything works perfect because hey, its all their hardware anyways!
And finally, SP2 was many many months of work in the making, they did not just "throw" it together.
my version of xp is complety legal. how dare you accuse me of pirating my software. none of the osftware i own is pirated.
chris
Calm down. I didn't say that you use pirated software. I meant that if you are applying SP2 to one of your customer's machines ("5th time that sp2 has bricked an os" sounds like you have had problems with multiple machines/OS) which has pirated XP on it, then it might show symptoms like you described in your post.

no these are client computers... as in not servers. all of the computers are mine.
ABF - DO NOT SLIPSTREAM SP2!!! I'm not saying you have but I recall you mentioning it in another thread that that was your intentions. If that's what you are doing ... stop right now. Now I know that will add a lot of time onto your installs, but slipstreamed XP SP2 is a pile. Half the time it blocks you from doing anything with ActiveX on a page.
Otherwise, your best bet is not to upgrade over a "used" SP1 by installing XP2. It has a slight tendancy to be in the best of terms "unstable". Install Clean - your problems should go away.
Sorry you're having problems... usually its not this big of a pain in the you know what.

Wierd, I have never had that problem, are you sure it was slipstreamed properly? Also, SP2 XP Discs (aka XP Pro Install CDs that come with SP2) are much more stable and run faster than installing the SP2 Service Pack on a SP1 or Original XP machine, even if it is fresh.
I use a Slipstreamed Corp Installer and it works great.
Anywho, if you are loading from scratch, just go and download XP Pro SP2 from your MSDN account....

god this is killing me. i am on the sp2 problem comp and it booted alright then i got a message that said that windows had recovered from a serius error (gee you think!?) just shows how stupid the idoits that code windows are... it working alright but it is EXTREMLY slow (for a 1.10 duron) and all of the movments are really blocky.
As I have said to you before ABF, QUIT saying that they are all idiots at Microsoft and bla bla bla about them. As stated before, they need to support MILLIONS of configurations and it is no easy task. SP2 is working great for tons of people, you just have an incompatibility or something.
O, and the serious error thing? Consider yourself lucky, on 98 or NT or the classic days it would have just gone to a BSOD and you would have been out of luck totally.
