One thing that we have in the military on our vehicles are solare chargers that recharge our batteries. It isn't a one shot charge, but rather a slow build up. I have often wondered why these haven't made it to market in the hybrid market to assist the battery charging of the brakes. With a few of these strips running on the hood, you could park your car at the mall and have a little extra juice. It doesn't solve the problem, but it helps. This can also be used to make regular car batteries last longer. Just a thought.
Another technology or product that hasnt been developed much in the past few years unfortunately (afaik anyhow!?) who knows where we could be with effeciency if these products had been developed further.
Sorry if that's not the info you were looking for, but you can find all the technical details and facts around the vehicle we've been discussing in here.
Kenban, I don't have much time, but my one big concern about that is how safe it would be in the event of a frontal car crash.
ecsk2, you know I was saying thanks to Scylla, not you, right? lol.
If you go back to page 2, you will see why.
All cars that are sold in the usa have to meet DOT crash tests, and when it comes to frontal crashes the USA has a lot more rigid tests than other countries. So the discussion is now suddenly about crash test issues, I thought it was about the technical solutions and batteries ;)
Glad to hear you got the info you were looking for. Right? ;)

I meant that, even if you could find a solution the the battery problem, one of the possible solutions being brought up by Kenban, his idea wouldn't work.

Well fortunately they are professionals who have worked in the industry for many decades who are working at TESLAMOTORS, not to mention all the other EV projects and vehicles out there.
This is longer than some of us has even been "around" ;)
When it comes tot he battery solutions these are developed typically totally independently from the product itself, as became evident just recently in the news with the Dell laptop battery issue, and the batteies being from Sony.
When it comes to the overall Electric Car issue, it is not really a technical solution problem but rather a POLITICAL and FINANCIAL gain question.
It was Dell and then Apple that initially had the issues last month then there were investigations into Sony batteries supplied to other brands such as Toshiba and Lenovo (formerly known as IBM thinkpad)

There might be some grammar issues here. When you state 'you could find a solution' and 'his idea wouldn't work' it is not so clear what/who you mean.
