The electric car might be dead, but this thread sure is alive!
The elctric car as such is far from dead. The film (which the topic of this thread is based on) actually focuses on a few specific models, mainly the GM EV1 (marketed through the Saturn dealerships at the time), the Toyota RAV EV, tiny Honda and a Ford Pikcup, and who & why the plug was 'pulled' on these, it had little or nothing to do with technology.
Ummm... I helped build the one at FSU, just was wondering where they put the link to the web page I built for it. I soldered a lot of #^@%&! solar cells for that thing, over a thousand. I have developed a light touch. And lead poisoning. So, seriously, I know what a solar-powered car is. Sheesh.
I wonder what they're up to with PV efficiency now?
It was Dell and then Apple that initially had the issues last month then there were investigations into Sony batteries supplied to other brands such as Toshiba and Lenovo (formerly known as IBM thinkpad)
