Apple vs Dell - Magazine article.

http://www.macleans.ca/switchboard/c..._127576_127576

Some of my personal favourite quotes:

Quote:
Back in 1997, Dell was the visionary and Jobs was the chump.... Dell took the opportunity to dump a little trash talk on his rival. Asked what he would do if he were CEO of Apple, Dell suggested surrender. "What would I do? I'd shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders," he laughed.
...

Five years have now passed.... Apple stores have become a phenomenally successful outlet.... and the company's stock has risen about 466 per cent. Dell, meanwhile, has seen its share of the personal computer market shrink from more than a third to about 29 per cent at last count, and its stock is pretty much exactly where it was five years ago, when Dell launched his verbal spitball at Jobs' retail strategy. As a result, Apple has now surpassed Dell's market value by US$1 billion, and it's been awhile since the chairman had reason to gloat.
...

"We're making money because we're innovating," he [Jobs] said. "They're making money because they're Wal-Mart."
It's actually NOT an article bashing Dell, it's well worth a read for those with interest in the industry.

Ahh this reminds me of the children's fable of the tortoise and the hare.
See the tortoise and the hare were competeing with each other in a race.
The hare kept running infront of the tortoise and proceeded to mock the tortoise until the tortoise lashed out at the hare and bit him in the leg.
The hare was pulled to the ground by the tortoise and was devoured alive on their race track
