Big Smile Sooo, 6/6/06 wasn;t so good for the "devil"

Quote:
Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the al-Qaeda terror leader who was Iraq's most wanted man, has been killed in a US air raid north of Baghdad.

Al-Zarqawi's death was announced this morning by Nouri al-Maliki, the Iraqi Prime Minister. Mr al-Maliki said that the al-Qaeda-linked militant was killed last night along with seven of his aides.

"Today Zarqawi has been terminated," Mr al-Maliki told a televised press conference, shaking his fist in jubilation.

The Jordanian-born militant, who is believed to have personally beheaded several Western hostages including Ken Bigley, a Liverpool engineer, was the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq after swearing allegiance to Osama bin Laden in 2004. He had a $25 million bounty on his head.

ohhh, don't say that.

There are plenty of people with "Victims Remorse" that would want him to have counselling and press conferences, instead of a 'tropical vacation get-away in the carribean with several hundred of his closest friends'

We got all that we need from him.. a large percentage of his corpse.

Bruno will just need to talk with his buddies instead.

This is great news for everyone... I only wonder who will fill his shoes. These guys are like weeds, I have no doubt someone will take his place.

I think with this we have knocked them off of balance, but not out, we need to go on a power play right now and knock out as many of them as we can.

Agreed. Now's the time to show the populus what can be done with good intel. Might make them feel the need to point a few people out and clean up their neighbourhood.
BTW, I really like Predators; no pilots you see......:approve:

Not to play the "devil's advocate" or anything here, but I think there's way too much of the media tooting their horns over this. Don't get me wrong the guy was a serious a-hole and needed to be taken out, but like reese said, this isn't going to change anything. Bin Laden is the one that needs to go down... that's the only one that's really going to make a difference in the grand scheme of things.

There's way too many weeds in the yard. Granted one of the really big ones got pulled, but we all know unless you spray some serious weed killer in that spot the stuff grows back even bigger.

i have a friend that is a Military intelligence officer in iraq, and he told me that some of the best intel they get comes from your everyday iraqi.

i am listening to a breifing by a military general and he said that taking down zarquai led to them launching 17 raids in a matter of hour. And that those raids have led to a treasure trove of information on there operations, some of which is involved in ongoing operations.

so all in all i would say today has been a good day in iraq, but i have a feeling that some of the information gained from the raids in the end will be more valuable than actually taking down zarquawi.

In any case, you knock off a leader, another leader will come... That is just common sense.

However, every time you take out a leader, you disrupt the organization.
You show that you are effective in eliminating them by getting the civilians to "see progress" being made.
You make the bad guys aware that they are being hunted
You make the bad guys distrust more of their 'friends', wondering who the next Judas will be.

All in all, still a good thing.
