Big Ben Hurt in Motorcycle Accident :-(

http://www.wpxi.com/sports/9356102/detail.html

Everyone in Pittsburgh was mad when we found out he rode without a helmet, and now this happens... I bet he'll wear his helmet from now on!

Yeah, I'll agree with you, assuming he is able to ride a motorcycle at all...the accident looked pretty bad.

Are you in Pittsburgh? I'm from there, and still a die hard Stillers fan.

I'm doing my bike licence soon and the thought of riding without a helmet scares the crap out of me. It amazes me when I see people riding in shorts and a t shirt.

Latest word is he is currently in surgery (no word as to why) but he does have a broken jaw and the majority of injuries were to his head and neck.

I sure hope he is ok!

Don't you remember Kevin Winslow Jr. of the BROWNS wrecked his motorcycle in a parking lot? Messed up his knee and had to sit out the entire season. He should be ready to go this year, so watch out Steeler fans! :)

he already takes enough hits in the head and then this... I hope he recovers.

Hey i'm a 100% freedom lover and I believe that each and everyone of us has to make our own decisions in life.

I think there should be no helmet laws(like where he resides) as long as tax payers don't have to pay for his bad decisions.

He made the decision to not wear a helmet(which I support) but I wouldn't ever ride a bike without a helmet and a jacket. I'm not to sure about protective pants but I wouldn't wear shorts no matter how hot it is. and it gets hot in hotlanta.

anyways freedom isn't perfect but at least it teaches punishment from bad decisions, the way it should be.

now the big question: is he gonna learn from this? is he gonna wear his helmet now? is he gonna continue riding? what is his coach gonna do?

I heard on the national news he was warned by his coach NOT to ride w/o a helmet and another player told him not to ride at all until he retired.

Too bad. Wonder if he'll ever be able to play again.

That other player would just so happen to be Terry Bradshaw. :) With that said, I sure hope that he plays again. I like him.

ya, PA is retarded in that a cop can pull me over and write you a ticket just for not wearing a seatbelt in my van, but someone can ride a motorcycle without a helmet....

doesn't make much sense, but then no one is lobbying for anti-seatbelt laws.

OK. Here is the thing. I'm all for letting people be stupid with their own lives. But we aren't talking about Joe Average here. We're talking about a guy who gets paid millions of dollars to play a game. And whose boss (the guy who pays him millions of dollars) talked to him at length about riding without a helmet. Should that have been in his contract? Yeah, probably. Other athletes have clauses like that. But, whether it is in the contract or not, if I am getting paid millions of dollars to do a job (I'm not) and my boss asks me to do something for my own safety. Yeah, I'll listen to that advice. So, shame on him.

That being said. My whole family and a lot of my friends ride motorcycles -- all kinds from Hondas to Harleys and BMW's and I don't know anyone who would ride without a helmet.

It's unbelievable how stupid people can be. Here in FL we have a couple of BIG bike events in Daytona Beach. Bike Week in March and "Biketoberfest" in October. The mass stupidity demonstrated by this crowd is a sight to see. Thousands of people riding around on crotch-rockets wearing no head protection at all. Even when it's not Bike Week I see dozens around here riding down I-4 at 85MPH (or more) wearing nothing more than shorts and t-shirt. Incredible.

Nuts. I mean it must get STINKING hot in a full set of leathers, but given the choice of seating it out or getting skin grafts I know which I'd choose.

A couple of days ago, a guy on a bike in front of me at a stoplight was wearing shorts, no shirt, no helmet, and his tires appeared to be practically down to the cords!
