I know there was talk that the axim line might be dead, but it's also about 1 year after the x51 model was released.
One site that reviewed the x51 back in sept 05 figured the next axim would be announced in the spring of 2006..... hmm, I wonder if that's why they don't have any refurbished axims on the dell outlet.
I'm looking to buy a new device and don't want to buy a model that's already near the end of it's model life cycle.
Refurbished device's from Dell's outlet store cycles nearly once every nanosecond. One look it's there, another refresh later it's gone.
I'm thinking that the Standalone PDA market itself is deteriorating and is falling out of existance. The next so called "Axim" may be something completely different than what we are use to.
Also I believe I read somewhere that dell was cutting the Axim line? Or was that the entire line of Mobile Processors, XScale by intel?

Yep, they really dont have a place in today's world... Used to, but not anymore... My phone serves as a calendar/alarm/phone/clock/gaming device/etc...
It replaces all needs I had for an axim (minus the GPS) which is why my X30 is covered in dust!
The RUMOR that I heard from a Regional Dell Sales Rep (SECOND HAND) was that Dell did not anticipate any new PDA lines for at least the next year (11 months now).

It just says XScale is up for sale. Saying this indicates cutting the XScale processor is akin to saying that there will be no more 3D cartoons because Disney has purchased Pixar.
I'm glad I still have my PPC2002 device, from 'way back when the PDA market was completely doomed. Chill out. The next devices may not be PPC like we know them, but they will feature what we love most. Perhaps the converged devices will speed up and expand their processing and storage capability. Perhaps MicroSoft will dictate persistent memory in the next version of UMPC. And maybe these will be too late for the next generation, when demand will dictate new devices. Don't burn your fields yet.
sheesh. Sometimes ya gotta <SLAP!> some sense into people.
I heard it will come with GPS, CATV, laser beams and zoo tickets, but who knows... it's just a rumour...

Personally, I am kind of glad they have separate devices. Granted there are more things to carry around, but at least I don't have all my eggs in one basket. If I had a smartphone and kept my info in there, all it takes is ones whoops and you are not only out your phone, but also your organizer/game. Just a personal preference though. In case you can't tell by my highly technological words, I am perfectly happy with a cell phone and a pda. My stepdaughter seems to know how to use both of them better than me.
The Asus R2 is based on a 7 inch WXGA LCD platform that is powered by a Celeron M ULV 900MHz CPU with up to a 60GB 1.8" hard drive. It features a GPS unit, full digital video and audio functions, Bluetooth V2.0, 1.3M-Pixel camera, and a RF Biometric Fingerprint reader for security.
Expected price is $1000 - actually quite low for what it has!

Went to the Dell site and tried to purchase a new Axim with the coupon I had. It didn't work. The X51v with IR Keyboard totaled $450 shipped... yikes!, took a quick look at the refurbished laptops and found a B120 without wireless networking for $429 *shipped* and my choice was obvious.
After I purchased the mini pci network card, bluetooth USB dongle and internal wifi antenna cables I was only $10 over the cost of a new Axim.
Though there are some negatives about having this low-end laptop versus the small and pocketable X51v, the advantages for me outweighed them and now I will be without an Axim.
I'm all for an all in one device as long as I don't have to sacrifice ANYTHING that my axim gives me. It would absolutely have to have a VGA screen as big and as good as my x50V ( no such beast currently exists that I know of). It has to have a processor as good as my current PDA. It has to have wifi capability ( because I'm not paying those outrageous data fees to a cell phone company for internet access). In short, I'm willing to compromise absolutely nothing for an all in one device just to have my cell phone in there too. I use my Axim for so many things that if they cut anything out I would miss it. I really don't care about my cell phone as much. I guess if you're a teenager who walks around with their cell phone glued to their ear its a different situation. Maybe I'm in the minority.
