INCREDIBLY off topic

this is incredibly off topic, but I am going to buy an SDTV because it supports up to 480i picture. now, if i'm not mistaken, this picutre IS better than a regular tv and it has component inputs, AND if i plug my xbox in (not 360, just xbox) it will display in the higher resolution, provided i have the correct cables for the xbox?? I just ask the question because there are a ton of smart people on this site.

Nothing wrong with off topic, but that is why this thread is going to the Water Fountain. ;)

get at LEAST a 720i or 720p tv for gods sake!......i love my xbox 360 on my 56in pioneer plasma tv. i now belive the burn in stuff about plasmas aint true unless you leave it on the same thing for 4 hours. cause i left it on pause for 3 hours before(accident) and it did nothing.

OH and no the regular xbox willnot go into a higher resolution mode. it will only look a little sharper/better. try a pelican s-video cable. they work wonders for me!! on my old tv before the plasma. the small text in halo2 was finally readable!

really? I bought a component video cable for xbox, (don't worry, it was off ebay and was about 2 dollars) but you're saying that won't make any difference? But the pelican s video cable WILL increase the res?

it wont make it go from say 720i to 1280p it will only look sharper(alot better looking). why? becase each color gets its own pin. not cramed into one.(the yellow plug) the signal quality is therefore not degraded by having to go thru one cable. ex--put on your glasses and all looks better right? that's basically what you do when you use s-video or r, g, b, y.cables. mka?.....

Thanks for the reply, it actually helped a lot. I think i need to get a television with at least 480p (at least thats what i hear) because it uses something different that makes dvd's and things that use progressive scanning more clear. I found one from sears (a samsung 30" for $750) which is pretty good I think. It supports up to 720i I believe, and all this other junk. I wish I had teh link but i'm at work and have to make this quick
