I'm spending the bulk of this weekend camping with the kids.
If you have spent any serious time in Hawaii, then you would like to see lots of land... Mt Rushmore is very cool, and it isn't far from Sturgis (which you could see in about 20 minutes), but you could get a t-shirt.

I guess If I lived in Hawaii and I wanted a short vacation I would: Take a 3 day cruse, or visit New Zeland, Austrila, or Tokyo. I hear Cambodia is a real good tourist destination now.
Orlando, FL if you are into theme parks. Since Busch Gardens (Tampa) and Sea World both are owned by the Busch family, you can catch a free bus ride to and from Tampa from the Sea World park, as well.
Honestly ... I would go to New York. You brought it up, you've never been there, and you seem to like the idea... if you like the idea, go with it.
There's enough stuff to see anywhere you go that you'll be happy.
There's always Anchorage, AK, Katchikan, etc along the Inside Passage. Most beautiful place I've been and now is a pretty good time to catch the whales and other nature you wouldn't see in the winter months.
Toronto ... more than you could possibly take in in 3 days. Same with Washington, DC, Seattle, etc etc etc ....
Good Luck - I'm sure you'll be happy no matter where you go, just pick a good hotel to stay at. Nothing worse than being in a new place on vacation and not being able to sleep comfortably.

To keep down travel time, I also suggest San Francisco. If your wife likes historical visits and you want to go to the east coast, Washington, DC is terrific.
Washington DC and then under 2 hours away are some amazing historical sites in Virginia. there's also the great Virginia beach, Water Country USA, and Bushe Gardens. I'd recommend flying to DC and then driving down into VA.

Thanks to AnnaMaria for reminding me about this... completely forgot!
Anywayz, we ended up just spending a day in Maui..
Her "mommy" side of the brain didn't want to be away from our 4-month old daughter for too long. Understandable -- but I want to go to NYC!!! lol!!!
Anyway, had a great time in Maui (her mind of course was with our daughter)... The best thing was, she really loved the idea of a 3-day get-away!
Well, thanks everyone for the great suggestion! I'm now more educated, and will be able to plan it better next time!
Mahalo all!!!
