Icon3 Where to go for 3 days: suggestion please...

Hi everyone,

Where (what state) do you think is the best place to go, and really enjoy it for a short three (3) days of great experience and fun?

I want to take my wife for a surprise 3 day trip anywhere in 49 states (oh, and don't suggest Hawaii, since we live here... :D)

Any suggestion?

thanks!

Not enough info on your likes and dislikes to make a recommendation. Sorry!

Indeed. If you could give a general idea of what you wanted to do, it would help.

Hmm, well something like the Statue of Liberty in NY for example. I have never been in NY or my wife, so NY would be a great place to go (maybe?)...

So, I was wondering what other states offer that me and my wife would really enjoy in 3 days.

Thanks!

As I said, that is still not enough. If you enjoy going to places like NYC, then you should. If you don't, you shouldn't. :) Hope that helps...

here is the place I like to go to for a quick trip.

Helen, GA

It's located in the Northern Ga mountains(which is good cause the temp is nice and crisp during the summer heat). it's a old mining town that hit hard times so the peps up there decided to transform the city into a bavarian village. it's really cool and there's lots to do, all the usual out door stuff like hiking, camping, fishing, I Think rafting(or whatever they call it). but I usually just stay in the city itself. I've been there 3 times and I still find new stuff there, last time I went the had this candy shop where they showed me how to make taffee and stuff, pretty cool. the resturants are great(bed and breakfeast) and you can stay there too.

anyways, this is a good unusual(suprise) trip to take, cause it's different and a great experience.

I would suggest Helen, GA

The closest airport would be in atl and it's about 1 1/2 hour drive from there(scenic once you get close to helen cause of the mountains).

eidt: oh yeah here's a link to their site http://www.helenga.org/

I'd love to go and see Mount Rushmore. Or the Grand Canyon. They're on my list :)

Try San Fran if you like cities (sounds like you do). It's close, a great city, enough to do for 3 days.

Well, that is a tough one, I hate planning 3 day trips to far from home because it is easy to cross the line between spending more time traveling to destination than enjoying the destination. So I try and keep 3 day trips where I can enjoy the trip as much as the destination, but leaving from Hawaii you stuck with Air travel isn't the most relaxing way to travel. I jump on a train, as I find them so relaxing and great way to travel.

Back to you, the problem I see is if you keep looking at entire 49 states leaving from Hawaii, then if you decide on east coast you are looking at least 8 hours in the air for nonstop plus another hour getting in and out of the airport, each way means 18 hours are already spent on travel. Effectively turning a 3 day trip into 1 day and 2 nights.

Then you also need to look at what you want out of the trip, relaxation, fun, romantic, site seeing? There is always Vegas. :)

Like I said, depending on what you want out of the weekend, but for me I like historical things. I would look at flying into San Jose and hoping on a train (told you I like trains) and head to Auburn, CA. Nostalgia of traveling by train to a historical city. Never been there, but seems there are things to do but not too many so you can really focus on the time and the person you are with than running around trying to do everything. This may not be the ideal spot, but something like that is how I plan 3 day trips with nice relaxing travel that I can enjoy, something not too crowded or busy preferably away from city.

This completes my 2 cent contribution, spend it as you wish.

how about another island?
if you only have 3 days, as said b4, you don't want to waste it traveling ... you want to be in each others' arms, or playing...just the fact that YOU TOOK THE INITIATIVE ... you chose to take her away for a lil trip will transform wherever into heaven...
 have fun buddy boy, you deserve it

Absolutely. The "where" ain't nearly as important to her as the fact that you wanted to spend 3 days with her. You could just go across town and it would be all the same to her.

Worried

Hey guys & gals, great suggestions, and tips...

Yup, it's actually seems a waste of time being on the plane almost half of the time to travel to the mainland.

My wife loves sightseeing (historical sites, etc.) reasons I come up with places like NY (statue of liberty). Mount Rushmore is kinda neat to see.

Annamaria: You are right. Spending the time with my wife is definitely the important thing... :D Hey, I want that gold star...lol!
