when i got my radeon 7000 yesterday, i noticed that on the drivers disk there was an overclocking utility. i installed it and it has two sliders one is for mem freq and the other is for core freq. would it damage anything if i moved both sliders up ONE possition fronm their current?
Not really, just be careful. Make sure you have adaquate cooling. I personally use RivaTuner. Much better for overclocking. I currently underclock my NVidia 5500 untill I play games, then I overclock it like mad. Its safer to use RivaTuner. It supports both NVidia and ATI cards.
P.S. Why did you get a Radeon 7000? There horrible. How much of a budget are you on? I bought my Radeon 9250 for $19.

if you don't game than what's the use for expensive video cards? may as well just get a cheap one, no?
3D CAD and some other 3D programs also need good video cards. Of course, it always depends on the complexity of the program. My old Radeon 9000 AIW will run Fear Factor 5.xx, but not Fear Factor 6.xx. Likewise, I only noticed it slow down in CAD when working with complex drawings. And finally, it will run the official D2X-XL levels fine, but some 3rd party levels with lots of detail become very slow.

I'm sorry, I should have specified. Does it support the Aero GUI? I don't think so.... If it can support Aero, it will definately support Google Earth.
