I didn't back it up with TV shows. My backup is the Mayan calendar and the bible code, which points to a meteor impact in the year 2012. The TV shows were for humor only.
Nostradamous (sp?) also predicted the end of man after the third world war (which could be alot closer than we think)

The asteroid is not going to end the world. Not even close to us. I really dont think the world will "end" really. I mean that mankind wont just be wiped out one by by some extreme natural or man made disaster.

Seriously though, I believe it will follow as in Revelations. But, as to a timeline... I can't say. The middle east problems, terrorism, and the whole North Korea/Iran/China thing has me a little nervous.

Everything is possible.
It is possible that a carpenter magically created wine from water (as many linux users know, wine is awesome) and flew around resurrecting himself (kinda like WoW).
It is equally possible that he was a prophet and that there was a later prophet that was more right than him(main difference between islam and christianity) (Everyone knows that they're more right than everybody else).
Of course it's possible that there are more prophets out there. If you think you know something - Try to REALLY understand string theory and similar stuff. The world isn't flat anymore. Quit trying to make it so.
Everything is statistics. Some things happen more often that others. It is really, really, really seldom that people walk through walls and stuff, but it IS POSSIBLE. Just not probable.
I believe there is a place for science in religion, and that we people can be helluvalot smarter and infinitely more enlightened than today.
That might be because I've glimpsed the deficiencies in todays society.
Even more on topic: Mayans were cool, so I vote for the end of the world. Soon.
I say after humans use all the resources on earth and have moved to other planets, that humans will try to experiment with exactly how to destroy planets.
