Exclamation --- End of the World Discussion ---

OK, I was curious when you guys think the end of the world will be... Do you think it will ever end? Do you think we will cause it? Do you have a date and tyme, and why?

How do you think the world will go. Who (if anyone) will survive?

I just figured this could start some good discussion.

:exc: Please, leave the politics outta this one. Keep religious dicussions civil.:exc:

==================

I'm gonna stick with my 2012 predicition. Too many conincidences point to that year. The Mayans, a meteor is headed towards us, and the whole John Titor thing (not saying I buy it, but still)

I guess the official date is 12/21/12.

Here are some interesting 2012 tidbits from wikipedia:

  • According to the Doctor Who episode Dalek, on this year a Dalek breaks loose under the Utah salt plains and plans to kill every living thing on Earth. The episode also predicts that by this year a billionaire named Henry van Statten will be the most powerful man on Earth, claiming to own the Internet itself.
  • In Methuselah's Children and Time Enough for Love by Robert A. Heinlein, mention is made of a crucial meeting of the Howard Families held that year. In both novels, viewpoint character Lazarus Long is asked what happened at this meeting as he is the last living eyewitness; in both novels he declines to answer.
  • The Notion Club Papers will be discovered at Oxford by Mr. Howard Green.
  • Grant Morrison’s The Invisibles concludes, with the Invisibles' "fictional" universe expanding into the meta-context of the "higher universe", possibly our own.
  • This is the year that Fry's dog on Futurama died at the ripe old age of 15.
  • Also on Futurama, the year of the War of 2012, in which comedian/talk-show host Conan O'Brien fought and subsequently lost his "freakishly long legs".
  • With the 6th Mayan world beginning, magic returns to the world in an event called "The Awakening" in the pen-and-paper RPG Shadowrun.
  • In the anime series RahXephon, 2012 is the year when Tokyo Jupiter incident occurred, ending a nuclear war between humans and interdimensional invader race of Mu and completely sealing Tokyo off the outside world. The Tokyo Jupiter incident is one of the pivotal points of the series' plot.
  • The Doctor Who episode Fear Her takes place in this year.
Feel free to discuss!

The world is going to end when the sun expands enough to engulf most of the solar system. I'd give it a few years....

I suspect we have interplanet travel down by then, but I think inter galatic travel will not be mastered by then. We have awhile I believe.

Yeah I was gonna say 12/21/2012 also, but not because of a metor (you'll have to wait for 2028 for that), mainly because the biggest solar storm in recorded history is going to peak around that year (30-50% stronger than the Solar Max of 1958) and could potentialy ionically swell our atmosphere causing our satillites to fall from the sky. Also possible is an "Escape from LA" style world wide EMP caused by the solar storm that could disable all major electrical equipment putting us all back to the "dark ages".

For all of you who don't know, this is what reese is talking about when he says the Mayans. And here's some solar storm info.

The world ended precisely at 3:37 PM EST on June 7, 1978 when a series of unremarkable events occured at random and without notice.

Nice Research. The only sad thing about having too much free time these days is the fact that I have watched almost all of those shows.

Titor is an absolute fraud. There can be no doubt whatsoever on that. He was probably an I.T. guy with a good imagination.

There is also talk of course of a pole shift coming up too.

I don't buy that either - put me in the skeptic category.

I think when/if the "end of the world" comes the most likely culprit will be some huge comet impact, or similar.

But maybe it'll be something that we can't even conceive right now.

I'd have included Keith Richards also, but...
