why not just use vmware? I use it all the time whenever I need windows to do anything. I allocated 256mb of ram for it to use and it runs fairly well...
VMWare just plain works. It's one of those applications that just does what it's supposed to out-of-the-box.
Wouldn't this defeat one of the purposes of LINUX? Linux cannot get viruses but if you install virtual pc, your computer can get viruses and probabely spyware. Excuse me if I am wrong. I am not into linux, but I am going to start on my old dell, I am going to try SuSe.

I've been playing with Mandriva 2006 a bit under VMWare. Seems to work OK until I try to change the screen resolution above 640x480 to, say, 800x600. It instructs me to logout then back in - then it can't start the GUI any more - it goes to a CLI. I try to run KDE but get a bunch of diagnostics and it returns to the command line.
Is there another distro that might work better in the VMWARE session? I'd like one that's prepared for the virtual-machine but doesn't require the TORRENT downloader and RAR - all that stuff. Any other distro VM's packed in ZIP format that I can get? I'd like it with developer tools so I can play with those.
So far, though ... I see no big deal with Linux. It hasn't shown me very much yet.

nope.... linux is much more then an anti virus os. say you want to try linux but you dont have a pc ready? boot up in vpc.
It's an SUSE version 10 distribution - and it runs really nicely. Much nicer than the Mandriva one. The screen resolution is set at a good size (1024x768) and has KDE and all those goodies. Linux is well represented by this particular one - a keeper - at least for tinkering around with.

In a nutshell
VMware Workstation: Build and run virtual PCs.
VMplayer: Only runs a virtual PC
VMware Server: Runs on Windows 2000 or 2003 server. Has less features then the Workstation version. Given as a teaser so you will buy VMware Infrastructure.
I am currently using both Microsoft VPC and VM Worksation. VM Workstation is by far, overall. a better product for businesses.

In my opinion, if you had enough money to buy a pda. You should have enough to but a small dinky laptop from a pawn shop and install linux on that. I have a Toshiba Sat. A15 for years, got tired of windows so I installed Suse version. I still have my XP desktop to do all my syncs and whatnot.
