If you want the best antivirus software...get NOD32....The most advanced protection against viruses, worms, trojans, spyware, adware, phishing and other malware - ALL IN ONE PRODUCT! It has a proven track record of Best detection, Fastest Performance and lowest system resource utilization. And Record holder of the VB 100% Award for superior virus protection! :approve:
Has anyone thought about creating a "spyware honeypot" by deliberately running spyware in a modified VM, with an external program giving the spyware junk information? If enough people do this, spyware would become nearly worthless to the hackers. If I could do that, I would explain how to set it up and let others do the same.

Indeed, I have been using NOD32 for quite some tyme... There is no better solution.
I also run Spybot and Windows Defender just to make sure no extra spyware slides in.
Add Sygate firewall and my hardware firewall and I am locked down tighter than Star882's sanity!
Seriously though, I have never been hacked, port scanned, infected, or anything...
All the security in the world is useless if the user isn't security conscious however.
Think about how many Windows PCs are infected with spyware right now? >80% of them probably.
Then think about what % of users have the capability, time and desire to do that? I'd say <2%.
I don't think it'd make a difference
So, make it a "spyware" unto itself (spyware against spyware - how ironic!).
Better yet, make it part of an antispyware program (which "captures" spyware and feeds them junk). Why just passively stop spyware when you can fight it?

I have installed the new computer and from the excellent imput have selected Avast, Adaware and Spybot as the anti-virus, anti-spyware programs . But I still have a few questions.
Avast:
I am a having a hard time understanding the difference between the Anti-virus part of Avast and the VRBD. I understand the Antivirus runs in the background at all times, but how do I schedule a scan with Avast Anti-virus(in the middle of the night for example)? I see that the VRBD can be scheduled to run with the screen-saver or with the computer on idle. Why can a VRBD be scheduled, but not the Anti-virus? Is the answer if VRBD is scheduled you don't need the anti-virus scheduled?
Spyware:
Earlier this week I installed Adaware and everytime I run it (once a day) it picks up from about 4 to 12 items. On my old computer I would get spyware on occassion, but not at this rate. I had McCafee's installed on the old machine but don't think it blocked spyware. So what is different on the new machine?
I have installed Spybot today. but there are no issues with it yet.
I have a 15 year old brother just starting his journey through porn sites (despite all the chats warning him about the damage to himself and the computer!) so I have to be very secure. My PC receieves all sort of malicious stuff but I´m safe!!
I´ve tried everything, but nothing gets past BitDefender, which by the way is #1 in several top 10 sites/articles (at the end of my post some links!). Besides this, it doesn´t hog up too much memory, and the downloader is relatively small (not more than 30 Mb). You should definitely try this one!
Apart from this you should always use Firefox, Spybot, Adaware, HijackThis and keep updating them.
And the first thing you should do is download SpywareBlaster, this is a freeware that configures your PC so that it is safe from over 2000 ActiveX, cookies, etc. It doesn´t clean but it prevents perfectly.
