However you are right about all the software avaible the problem is that the avaible ram i had on it probably wouldnt have let me run anything, outta 32 megs solely for ram i had 3 megs free. If i had installed it on a newer ipaq the experience probably would have been much better.

It's completely different when there's 64MB or more of RAM. I remember when I ran Redhat Linux on a computer with just 48MB of RAM... I was actually quite surprised how well it ran, although it disliked heavy applications...
Indeed, the extra cost of additional memory will likely be more than offset by eliminating M$ from the equation. Even if I had to pay an additional $30 for it, I would consider it well worth it. And my next PDA will run Linux.
If you really want to cope with little memory, try running Linux on a wireless router...
