I believe it. A bullet would fragment when it hits just about anything.

I thought that the first shot was a test fire and that the samuria was gonna chop a bullet in flight.

then I saw that when the bullet fired that two holes formed in the paper, and then I was confused......

then they showed the sword. AH

they must have used a fragmenting bullet. lead I don't know. anything with a jacket would have ruined that sword.

actually the show motion....

would a bullet thats spinning just get stop spinning like that when it hits something.

I would think that the spin would toss one half of the bullet up and the other down. at those speeds I would think that those distances would be great.

This reminds me of the guy in the sideshows that catches the bullets in his teeth. How do you practice this? Do you start with somebody softly tossing the bullets underhand, then work up to overhand, and then finally a "slow" gun? Same with the fat guy that gets hit with the cannonball.....

With the advances in technology, they could make a bullet that would slice through that sword like butter. They also make a bullet that fragments into sand-like powder when you shoot paper. It's definately neat stuff.

edit
I was just gonna let you know that modern marvels had an awesome show about bullets. That's where I saw the fragmenting bullet..

Also, the spinning of the bullet (centrifugal force) helps pull the bullet apart..

I thinks it's pretty awsome that when they show the blade finally breaking in slow motion, it just looks like a piece of rubber. Pretty cool.
