Assuming you're using Visual Studio, the installer you want is built into the IDE.

I think some of the following MSDN Tech articles may help out:

"Deployment Patterns for Microsoft .NET Compact Framework"
"Developing and Deploying Pocket PC Setup Applications"

Those should help you out.

As to the exe versus cab, I would lean towards the exe/msi installer particularly if I'm distributing it to end users. Otherwise, I have to provide a way for the end user to pick the correct cab file to install on their machine. Plus with the exe, I can also make sure any additional items they may need are also installed before the application.

Cab Files do work well, BUT !!

If i ever made software, i would keep it cab only. Its a lot better format. Many software comes in cab only.
Example, I've purchased Pocket Informant 2007 Beta, its only available in CAB files, it installs fine on my X51v, but on my X50v it will only install in Main Memory, I always install in BIS on the X50v or on a card, When I use Cabinstl it sayes its hardwired to install in Main Memory by Pocket Informant, how do I get around that.??

Appreciate Your Replies.

Ya in the wrong thread/forum, but you may not be able to, without changing the ini/inf (forgot which) in the cab file, don't ask me how.

I strongly agree with BobSchaefer, but I saw those articles, too complicated for me.

Trust me, work through the articles with the IDE running at the same time. Its not as hard as they make it seem. I agree with you that they certainly don't make it look easy, I think the big problem is the attempt to show how to do it in both VB and C# in the same article.

There's also an article on CodeProject somewhere that helped fill in some of the missing stuff in those articles. Head over there and take a look around. Once you get your head wrapped around it, its really quite easy.
