I found this http://www.usafootball.com/articles/...rts-drinks.php

I would be interested in reading more about why Gatorade is bad for you in intense heat if anyone has a web link for that.

I think the deal is, that when you are hot and thirsty, there may be a tendency to overdo how much gatorade (or powerade) that you drink... drinking by the gallon is probably far too much salt.

I am not a physiologist or dietician, but here's my 2 cents worth. When I played competitive tennis in my younger days, I used to cut gatorade (powder) to about 50% strength. Gatorade is basically sweat that you can drink. It's a concentrated solution of electrolytes and minerals (sodium and potassium chlorides) that your body excretes during physical activity. You're right, in a sense that it will sit in your stomach and not be adsorbed fast enough. Cutting it with water allows it to be adsorbed quicker. Once the activity is done, full srength would be okay.

water is the best - we used to have a rule when i worked lawn care in southern mississippi that if you did not have to pee at least once an hour you were not drinking enough water. the other thing was that we kept water in a cooler without ice - avoided the stomach cramps you get when it is too cold despite the fact that your brain tells you it should cool you off better.
