Photoshop Problem(with the program)

I've been working on this site and everything's going great, but all of a sudden the blending options doesn't work anymore.

if I open a new doc and try like a shadow, it'll work. but NO blending options will work in this doc. I don't know if I checked something or unchecked or what but i'm lost, I've spent the last 2 days trying to figure it out and nothing.

here's a pic showing it.

this is the doc in question, everything is hidden except for this experimental green box. as you can see in pic, if I check the color overlay, nothing happens. it's the default option, red and 100% opacity.

is the file corupt or something? did I do this? I have no idea?

does anyone else have an idea?

It might be corrupt. You sure that isn't the default mask color? you can't add a blend or shadow to a mask. Hit Q once or twice. If nothing else just duplicate the file, save it as something else and dupe the layer for good measure.

Resetting preferences generally solves odd glitches like this. Here are some instructions if you don't know how to do it.
