What I really like about the GenPets is that you can buy them in 1-year or 3-year lifespans. Your child's familiarity with death and loss can be at a prescribed time, allowing you to set up your health insurance for proper emotional counseling (hey, we all have to become comfortable with loss), and you can also get one for a mid-teen that you won't have to clean up after when they leave for college! win-win.
