Chris - by replying to his email they know that your email is "live". Normally they send email out assuming each email may or may not be valid. Now you removed any doubt about yours.

It's also quite possible that the email was spoofed and came from someone else altogether. So you may have just insulted an innocent person.

Either way it's not your desired effect.

Once in very great while I look into my junk mail folder to see if anything I want to read erroneously got routed there. It never does. I simply delete junk mail, unread and unopened. As I said before, spammers are a lower form of life (and I use the word life graciously here) that warrents extinction. Ignore them, perhaps they will go away.

if you will notice most spam emails have pictures in them are just links to a picture with a serial number like file name. when you open that picture (when you open the email normally, unless your email client dosnt load pictures with out permission) that leaves a log file on there server that shows what file was accessed, then all it takes is comparing that log entry to a list of emails and the file name that was assigned to it, and voila you know that email is good.

Still getting at least one or two a day. If I respond and they think I am a customer I wonder if they would take me off the spam list.
I really don't know why the service providers don't stop it. They must know who sends millions of emails each day.

Well, you could complain, but as somebody mentioned, they are apparently coming from different ip addresses? I'm sure you could complain, but they will only find another provider, or some other means. Perhaps they are even using spyware to take over, and use "zombie" machines.

My ISP has an email address to report SPAM and abuse, so I have taken to forwarding each and every one of them to that email address. It may have no effect, but then again, sharing is a good thing.

Actually, you should send it to the other ISP, not yours. Sending it to them (unless of course, your ISP is their ISP), will do nothing.

To find that out, simply do a WHOIS lookup, many times, it will give a abuse email address.

Now here is a good spam email! I particularly appreciate the part about the same surname. It came to an AKAJohnDoe account! HA!

It is my pleasure to contact you by email. My name is Michael Mason. I
am managing head, Audit Committee of an established Corporate Financial
Servive Provider here in Channel Islands. Of course, I am contacting
you in a non-official capacity and therefore require your utmost
confidentiality.

I am currently in search of a foreign business partner who is in a
position to assist me with an urgent fund transfer, as time is not on
my side. I need a partner, who understands what confidentiality means
and who has the necessary facilities required in embarking on this
important venture.

We had a client who deposited a huge sum of money with one of our
branches in Europe, who later died in a fatal car accident on November
12, 2001. The client died intestate and nominated no successor in title
over the investments made with our bank. Since the death of this client,
I personally have watched with keen interest to see the next of kin but
all has proved abortive as no one has come to claim his funds of
£6,300,000.00 (Six Million Three Hundred Thousand Pounds)
deposited with our bank in 2000. This client shares the same surname
with you. It is for this reason that I am contacting you.

In accordance with the British Trust and Federal Laws, at the expiration
of 6 (six) years, his investments with our Financial Trust shall revert
to ownership of the government of the country of the said investments if
nobody applies as the next of kin to claim the investments.

Since you share the same surname with this client, I want to present
you to stand in as the next of kin so that you and I can benefit from
this investment equally (i.e. 50% for you and 50% for me). I guarantee
that this will be executed under legitimate arrangement that will
protect us from any breach of the law, as I will use my position to
secure approvals and guarantee the successful execution of this
transaction.

If this proposal is acceptable to you, kindly indicate your full names,
your private telephone, fax numbers and location where the money will be
remitted. I will instruct you on the next step to take.

I look forward to your earliest response.

With friendly greetings,
