Star Wars

OK. So, I know I am not the only Star Wars geek here.

Today is THE day Star Wars fans have been waiting for. Today, the original trilogy has been released in its original form on DVD. Some hardcore fans have expressed concern over two points:

1. That they were not released individually, but combined with the George Lucas preferred Special Editions; and

2) That they were not "fixed" in any way.

I say these complaints are bunk. We asked for the movies as they were originally released because we wanted to see them as we remembered them. I, for one, am a very happy Star Wars fan today. :)

Ah, Star Wars as it was before all this good computer graphics and schtuff. I just wish they would release them in a bundle, not by themselves.

Just got my copies. :)

I was disappointed that they were bundled with the "special editions" but at least I got what I wanted - The original theater releases.

HAN SHOT FIRST!!! ;)

Each episode has a Disk 1 and Disk 2. What the call the Digitally Remastered versions are on the Disk 1's and the Original versions are on the Disk 2's.

The box says the sound is only Dolby 2.0 Surround. Is that what the original was in? The box for my VHS tape of the original version says Hi-Fi Stereo. That's the same thing, right?

Katwoman, Dolby 2.0 stereo is higher quality sound than the Hi-fi stereo on your VHS tapes. The DVD was actually mastered from the Laserdisc which was released in the mid 1990's. So, it is better quality than the VHS tapes, but lesser quality than most DVD's today.

I tried to buy it today, but they only had the full screen...I prefer wide screen. I'll get it soon, though. :)

Yeahhhh! When it's time to shoot, shoot! Don't talk.
As one who was equally annoyed and intrigued by eps. 1-3, I'm glad that a DVD set exists of the original release (4-6).

I just got them today (they weren'ty on the shelves yet when I stopped by the store yesterday) and started watching Star Wars.

No anamorphic pan-n-scan
No Dolby 5.1 Stereo Surround Sound
No Digitally Enhanced Special Effects

It was AWSOME...Just like it was meant to be. :) The SPecial Editions are great, but it is kind of like watching the old Flash Gordon show from the 1940's, you expect to see the strings. It's part of the show.

Also, since I had not bought the Special Edition before, I was happy they were bundled together (bonus, Sam Goody is running a $5/video mail in rebate).

I could not be happier with these videos. So, special thanks to George Lucas (who is probably not roving around Aximsite, but oh well). :)

As someone who is used to very old and very used VHS tapes, I think it looks and sounds great!

I've got the 1984-1986 single VHS tapes (I think that's when they came out), the 1990 boxed VHS tapes, 1997 Special Ed VHS tapes, 2004 DVDs and now these. I'm exactly the sort of sucker that George Lucas loves.

But I infinitely prefer them the way I saw them as a kid. And I can't even express how much I hate Eps 1-3 (well, except for the part in 3 where Anakin slaughters all the younglings ;))

However, if they come out with a cleaned up version of the originals (no extra stuff, just getting rid of some of the matte lines and such) with better sound I'm sure I'll buy those too!

I agree with you completely Katwoman. Although, ya gotta admit in Ep 3, it was pretty cool when they were putting the Darth Vader helmet on at the end. :)

There is a much rumored complete box set slated for 2007 (30th anniversary). No official word, so we'll see what they do for that. :)
