Exclamation Impending Doom of Santa Claus, our Coasts, and Climate

Not that more global warming proof is needed at this point, but we still have a few 'naysayers' out there. Here's an image of the arctic ice in 2004 compared to 2005. (click on thumbnails..)

Notice the massive ice loss in just one year? Santa Claus will soon be a dead man, if not already.

Global temperature compared to atmospheric concentrations...

And finally, storm frequency compared to sea water temperatures...

Any questions?

Here's a question:

How do you know that the current climate trends aren't part of the cyclical nature of the earth's climate?

I'm not saying I disagree with you... it is just nowhere near as cut and dried as some people would like to think.

does it matter if it's 20%-80% natural.... When it gets hot in summer, I still stop putting on sweaters, even if sumer is part of the cyclical nature of the earths climate. To be honest if its 100% then we are screwed BIG time. The last time the planet went through this cycle, there wasn't an industrial civilisation on it, and there might not be one left at the end of it.

At least if we think it is 'our fault' we can do something about it.

And we can talk about climate change without it being either political or religious in nature.

(although the religious nature of climate change might be quite interesting.... but not in this thread)

Isn't it interesting that Global Warming Fanatics like to start data from 1860 when that is the end of the last Ice Age?

http://www2.sunysuffolk.edu/mandias/...e_ice_age.html

So what are you trying to say, its warmer now than it was the last time it stopped getting colder.

yeah this should be in the political/religion(do we even talk about religion?) forum

--------------------------------------

don't hold on to global warming that tight. Russian scientists predict global cooling, preditions is based on "solar" emissions(like i've been saying, ITS THE SUN).

and it talks about putting off the kyoto for better times, the globe is gonna cool down without the kyoto.

http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/view.ph...5-091321-7556r

oh and it also talks about the earth's NORMAL 200 year long cycle of cooling and warming, so what bentos said is correct. global warming believers only use stats that support their position(manipulating data)

The earth is warming, we just don't why. The last time the earth warmed several hundred years ago, there wasn't an industrial civilization to cause it. Is it natural or man made? Only time will tell. If we try to stop it and it is natural how money and time will be wasted? I agree that we need to stop polluting, but at what and whose expense.

I gather from reading this thread that most of the replies are from people in the U.S.

I guess saying that will push this toward the Politics and Religion forum, so as I'm not a member there and mostly here for the unbelievably wonderful tech advise, I will attempt to withdraw what I might have infered with that comment.
