Question XBox 360 WiFi connection

Hi everyone,

I'm about to say goodbye to PC gaming forever and buy a dual Nintendo Wii/XBox 360 setup, both running through my existing 802.11g home wireless for multiplayer/downloads. The Wii comes with built in WiFi, but the XBox requires an adapter (that is my understanding anyway, im getting the premium xbox if that makes a difference..). Microsoft is retailing their adapter at $170 Australian which is rediculous for me, the budget is already straining under the weight of the two consoles. It seems to be a generic USB adapter though, with all the software on the 360. Does anyone know if a standard old generic USB WiFi adapter will work with a 360? I hope someone in here has already tried using a generic one succesfully.

Thanks!

You don't need to use the usb port, any (compatible) ethernet based wireless adapter will do. I am currently using the original XBox wireless adapters and they work great.

Sweet so that probably means that there's no mysterious M$ software in their wifi adapter.

help needed

I got the same question as jerry. I got a D-Link usb wifi adapter, and I tried to plug it in but nothing happens. I've tried to check the settings for my xbox while the adapter plugged in but couldn't find anything.
There is one option available in the advanced settings section, called "wireless information" but that's inaccesible so somehow it's not working with mine.. or are there a way to help it?? 100 euros are a little expensive in my case for The Xbox 360 wifi Adapter. do I have to install the software for the D-link?
