Wow - Scotland Beat France!

Hey AlbaJoe - that is one nice (shocking) result - especially since I think I remember you talking about France being arrogant when playing in Scotland in the past.

Oh, and probably made even sweeter (for the Scots) by the fact that England got a crap result on the same day ...

This was an AMAZING result for Scotland. I have had much satisfaction pointing this out to my French in-laws (along with the fact that the last time we played them at rugby, we beat them at that too!). Amazing things don't often happen to Scottish national teams so I'm glad that someone started a thread on this. Ok, we haven't qualified (yet!) but we have to gloat when we get the chance!! :celebrate

A great result, let's see if they can do it in a proper game in the Six Nations. :)

Hi all.

Very nice thread patrick lol. Yes they always underate opposition and to be quite honest were quite disrespectful. Some of the French players took great pleasure in saying how our league is so poor and how they don't know any of our players. I wonder if they will remember them now ?.

Andy that took a lot for you M8 lol. Don't worry your boys are moving into a new era 2. You got rid of your own Berti Vogts. Good luck....just not too much of it he he

Scooter just keep rubbing it in. My french brother n law is raging. Now to beat them in Paris - we have actually performed better while playing away in recent past.

Cheers Jogga. Bring on the 6 nations 2 lol

The lovely AnnamariaNJ - thanks petal. They not sorted your new title yet ? may I suggest the TartanRose lol now that would be an unusual flower.

There was something electric in the air that day even before the match. I could honestly sense something big was going to happen. Every so often the Warrior Poets remind the world that pride, honour and teamwork can overcome the best in the world.

It is SO SO SO good to get the pride back into the team and Tartan Army. Top of Table with top two teams in the world...I'm floating on air.

The HAMPDEN ROAR is back with a vengeance. Bring on the Ukraine and mind that bannana skin*

LOL ALBA GU BRA

*Our sporting history is littered with glorious defeats or beating the best and then getting pumped by countries I cannot even pronounce. Fingers crossed!

GOOD LUCK ALL TONIGHT

Hey There AlbaJoe - was beginning to wonder where ya were - hope that a solid 3-day celebratory drinking binge accounts for the delayed reaction:)

That atmosphere on the day sounds amazing. Have been to Hampden for rugby and football - but never for a match that meant a whole lot like that one, so can only imagine.

Closest for me was going to Ibrox back when Rangers played Valencia in the European Championship (before changeover to Champions League name). That was pretty unique. Valencia were (no offense) a much better side than Rangers at the time and beat them - but the couple thousand Valencia supporters in the ground felt the full passion and wrath of the Rangers fans all night ...

lol PatrickJ you don't know how close you are to the truth there. I am just beginning to recover now but will hopefully be doing it all again when we beat the Ukraine tonight. Well you never know it might happen he he.

You appear to have a great insight to our culture (Football & Drink) and like a true adventurer lived like the natives lol. Respect to you m8.

I remember the night at Ibrox you are talking about and to be honest we simply did not know who Valencia were at that point. I had never seen them in a european game before but when they played us they were totally awsome. They got to the final and then became a big fource in europe for a number of years. It hurt that one because before we met them we were playing very well. Your right though, the Scots even make defeat sound like a victory.

Did you spend much time in Glasgow/ Scotland ?

Ha - glad to hear the guess on the 3-day celebrating was not far off. Cool that you recall that night at Ibrox too! And I know what you mean - Valencia did kinda come out of nowhere that year (also Claudio Lopez became an overnight star playing for them).

Insight on drinking = I certainly have plenty of experience.

Spent only 6 months living in Glasgow, but used to get up to Edinburgh just about every summer for the festival and make some other trips there when possible.

Hope you guys get a win tonight against Ukraine ...

Yeah, saw that result just a little bit ago. England also had a terrible result and they are not in great shape right now. Like you say, Scots are still very well positioned in that group I think.

From = raised in the Northeast of the US, but my dad was from England - spent around a dozen years living in the UK, supporting Spurs (which may cause you to retract any statements implying I know anything about football) and now residing in wonderful Austin, Texas - still try my best to follow football and rugby, but don't get to see much anymore ...

yeah England are in trouble. They are in a very easy group and with the players they have should be doing much better.

Hope you can get the highghts the second goal was fantastic lol.

England are a disgrace .They lost 2-0 last night to Croatia. Good grief:realmad:

And the team players get paid tens of thousands of £ a week for this rubbish.

Good luck Scotland :approve:

That 3-5-2 experiment seems like a total loser - seems like past attempts at that sort of formation have never worked with the sort of players England tend to have.

I don't rate Mclaren as a manager either - and not just saying that now, after bad results - never liked the choice in the first place.

yes these views are consistent with the English lads I know. They feel mclaren was too clise to Sven. Its like Real Madrid, they thought big names would bring big prizes but it didn't materialize that way. 1st and foremost there must be respect, honour and teamwork. Croatia has some biggish names but it was their team effort. Nations like Denmark and Greece have shown it can be done.
