I am so disappointed with my X51V pda, even though it has the best hardware components inside, and I loaded the A12 ROM, it's still pretty slow and crashes very often after gentle use. Believe me, I am not a PDA virgin and know the tricks very well.
At the same time I have decided not to buy any Dell products anymore. To me, Dell is nothing but powerful hardwares with VERY poor software implementation. I more and more realized that software is as important as hardware. And I will have to consider the entire hardware and software solution when I look for another piece of IT product.

Well, I don't blame ya, their chief problems are support and consistency. Some people have zero problems with their X51v/A12 machines. And they did so well with all the WM2003se and under machines. Perhaps MicroSoft tried to shoehorn too much into the WM5 operating system. Look to the experienced WM5/X51V users on this board for some answers that may help.
I have a x51(low) with A12 and it works great. This is also my first PDA so I will be able to better comment on how good it is after I get my next PDA.

This is true, Dell can put some really good hardware together at a reasonable price, but they don't know how to put software together to make it run.

I patiently waited for A06, then A12. I spent so much time on this damn thing. With A12 everything is better than the old A01, but still far from stable and responsive. I used the x51v for a trip last weekend and it crashed so many times. It would stop responding suddently and I had to do a soft reset.
Dell is nothing but a great marketing and sales company. It is no way a hi-tech company as HP or IBM which spend billions of dollars for R&D.
I feel so regretted about the X51V though. It would make an excellent PDA if there is good software to use with it. But now it's almost like a paperweight for me.
Again, no Dell products anymore!

I think anyone who deals with Tech stuff has made the statement about no more Dell.
But the turth is Dell does some things very well. I still think the computers Dell puts together are about the best offered and the warenty is excellent. Laptops are top notch and the one area ( I think) that they have peed the bed is in the PDA market. Yeah MS has a hand in it but if your going to offer a piece of equipment you owe it to your customer to ensure that the equipment will preform satisfactorily........
