1. salary offered is from: $72,000 to $86,500.00. based on 2+ to 5 years exp.
should I put $80,000.00 as my dream salary (too high? I have 13+ years exp.)
please advise what's appropriate, etc. (I don't want to make an @ss of myself)
2. New job is from one city to another.
Is it appropriate to ask/request for moving allowance?
3. The boss (the one who will interview me) will be on vacation here in the city where I live, and he's nice enough to conduct the interview during his vacation.
Is is appropriate to give him something? gifts, wine, etc.?
Normally you would get a job offer and counter. I would try NOT to give them any salary intellegence unless specifically requested. Then you will have to do a salary study for that area. (Salary.com) I have always been told and know this first hand, always get your money up front. Raises never happen and bonuses fall short. Get the max salary.
Yes it is appropriate to ask for a relocation package, again many employeers have a package pre-determined. It is almost always included with your job offer.
NO GIFTS!!! NO WINE!!! Especially alcohol! OMG, you don't know if he's a southern baptist against alcohol!!!!! Always be neutral. I would not get too personal until after you land the job.
I totally agree with Dsmithz28. He hit every point perfectly. Why limit yourself to the midrange of the salary? What kind of job is it? Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Good advice, but , yeah, what sort of job are we talking about? Try to avoid naming any sort of figure until he comes up with one and then add to that if possible. i.e. we are offering Xdollar Oh yes that sounds nice, of course that doesn't include the relocation package does it, oh and buy the way, I will be able to add this value to your business therefore you would obviously be taking that into consideration when you look at the bonus figures we will be talking about etc...... Try using the Blink Test ( keep adding until they Blink)

I too agree with Dsmithz28. When negotiating your salary, do NOT sell youself short (why settle for $80K, but in the same breath, do not go in asking for the max). If you bring value (experience), quantify it and just be able to explain why you think that is an appropriate salary.
ABSOLUTELY ask about re-location assitance. If they cannot offer that, be creative, maybe they could do it in the form of a "signing bonus", 1/2 payable after 90 days and the other 1/2 paid at 6 months. If that doesn't fly, try to negotiate an "extra" week of vacation/PTO.
ABSOLUTELY NO gifts of any kind, but MAKE SURE you send a nice thank you note after the interview. Good luck! :approve:

If you find yourself falling off a cliff, you might as well try and fly!
dsmith said it, however I disagree with his "presents" thing. If I were you I would buy him lunch/dinner for taking time out of his vacation to interview. but thats just me, but yeah NO ALCOHOL!

nope, not even lunch, not yet. Even though he is interviewing while on vacation, it gives him the opportunity to write off part of the trip, a win-win for him.

I have to disagree and recommend you buy him some alcohol. Nothing loosens the purse-strings like Mezcal. Tequila will do in a pinch. Don't forget salt and lime.

Now you're thinking. Consider a hooker too; get some good pics and then blackmail him. You will then be able to set you're own salary.
Absolutely do not buy lunch. Him being on vacation is incidential. Also, you buying might imply that you are bigger than he is. And don't think for a minute that HE will be paying for lunch, it will end up like most of his vacation on an expense report. (Like mine do!!! )
But if you take any advice of mine, MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT FALL FOR SUCKER LINES LIKE:
"WE REWARD OUR EMPLOYEES WHO WORK HARD"
"YOU GOT TO GIVE IT TO GET IT"
"WE OFFER A BIGGER BONUS PROGRAM TO COMPENSATE FOR A LOWER BASE PAY"
Absolutely negotiate for everything up front that is fair and due to you based on your experience, education, and location. Except nothing else. I seen people who have been burned with this before. BELIEVE ME!
