I very seldom ask computer questions on this site but I'm giving it a try.A friend of mine(IT guy) gave me spare ,used 250gig WD sata hard drive.I got an external case and added the drive. The drive spun up,new hardware found, lights blinked and everything seemed ok except it won't show up as a drive on"My Computer".Device manager says the usb connection ok and system says hardware working and ready to use.I have tried every jumper position on the hard drive.I even tried an old 20 gig ide drive and it worked ok.The case has dual adapters so you can use either ide or sata.Any suggestions would be appreciated.
try, going right click on the my computer ICON click manage, click on disk management on the window that somes up. lokk for you wd hdd on the list, right click and create a new partion, or dlete the curent one.
What OS are you using? On my wifes HP running WinXP Media SP1 I had to upgrade to SP2 in order for her 200 GB HDD to be seen. When running SP1 only 120 GB was reported by the OS. You may have a similar issue?
Under device manager is the drive seen as a USB MASS STORAGE DEVICE or...? aximbigfan may have the right solution. The partition and file system may be the issue. I guess you just have to eliminate the possibilities.
Thanks Cris. That got me to where I needed to be.I found the drive and it wasn't inatialized.I inatialized it and did a quick format and it is now working.I guess I will have to stop harrasing you about your spelling for a couple of weeks, but only for a couple of weeks.

Wow, I got it... I've been checking back every now and then just to see if I was right... You know, I kinda cheated... I mean my first guess was Hopper, but just to be sure I downloaded the avatar and zoomed in on it... a bit fuzzy but I was pretty sure by the it was him.. ;)
