If you have a keyboard, then use landscape. It utilizes screen space when browsing the web, since you get that wider 4x3 (just like desktop monitor) resolution.
Some programs force me to use portrait, and when im not using my kb, im always in landscape, since sips take too much space in landscape.

Landscape most of the time. i have taken out the soft keys and start menu bar so that i have no wasted screen real estate. its a beauty. my record button is rotate screen also so its an easy transfer for some apps that dont support landscape.
How do you get rid of those bars? I'd love to do that.
I wish I could specify Landscape or Portrait mode on a per application basis. For example, I'd love to use Spb Insight (great RSS reader) in Landscape, but Agenda Fusion works best for me in Portrait.
I wish I could set Settings->Screen to PORTRAIT, but whenever I fired up certain applications (like Spb Insight) that they would go right-handed Landscape.

Anyone know how to accomplish this?
I think you can do it using mortscript, with a bit of programing skill.
Yea I have one of my hard buttons designated to Rotate Screen. I mostly use my Axim for GPS now which I run in landscape. Since I drive alot for work, it normally just stays in landscape. I can rotate it quickly in case some program doesn't run right.
I personally like the start menu layout of landscape mode vs portrait mode. I like how it only displays 5 icons across the top vs listing 10 of the last programs icons and names. It makes the start menu look messy.
