Do You Hate WGA? - Here Comes OGA

Following the huge success of Windows Genuine Advantage in pissing off masses of users, now MS is going to bring us Office Genuine Advantage.

http://www.computerworld.com/action/...=NLT_PM&nlid=8

Any bets on whether OGA will be just as horribly flawed as WGA in falsely identifying 'counterfeit' copies of Office software?

Maybe it's time to switch to OpenOffice.

Problem is it flat-out doesn't work some of the time. I work as an IT consultant, and we've seen at least 5 different clients and over 20 machines over last few months where it insists your copy of Windows is counterfeit even *while* on the phone with MS Support, running their own validation tools, which are confirming your copy is genuine - at the very same time WGA Notifier will sit there squawking about counterfeit copy etc. I've seen this on OEM copies of XP, retail copies, and Volume License Key copies. I've had a recent case with 3 laptops where it took an absurd amount of time for MS to (eventually) admit a bug, and provide a (not publicly released) hotfix after at first vehemently denying they knew of any issues.

I have no problem with piracy prevention - I just prefer when a product works if you're going to force it upon us ...

OpenOffice sucks. I've tried it... impossible to do some mundane tasks with. But... when MS starts charging for Office 2007, I might have to switch back.

This is going to piss of businesses that have 100s of pcs running office.

What a pain in the...

They already charge outrageous rates for office, that is why many people get it illegally. I mean come on ms, most people need these programs, and they are ONLY ms quality.
